As a DS student I feel that this school while academically excellent breeds a variety of other problems. It is an incredibly high stress environment, making it a breeding ground for various stress related health issues. If you chose to take fewer honors/AP classes you are labelled as stupid and pressured to take more yet if you take to many it is impossible to do your work. There are also a lot of problems with substance abuse. Parents turn a blind eye when their kids do it yet they will make a scene if someone else's does. DS students and their parents are the most competitive bunch around.
Love this school precisely because it is smaller. Every quiz and test, we get an email reminder. My daughter went to speak with a guidance counselor because she wanted to discuss her schedule and I get a call. The teachers really care. Although a larger school may offer more course choices i.e. Russian or Greek, I think there are enough choices for the college-bound to more than fulfill their requirements and set up a competitive transcript. Plus the communities are small enough that you can watch all the kids grow up together through the years
This is a wonderful school system joining two small towns. Many families in the area send their teens to private schools but Dover/Sherborn families take advantage of an excellent High School.
Dover Sherborn is one of the best school in Massachusetts. Its education offered there is great and the faculty is top notch. Even though the school is a public school, it seems to be just as good most private schools. The courses are challenging and the children get the best education possible. Any child who goes to the school gets a top notch education and will have a great start into going to a good college
I agree with the prior comments made in December 2007. Many subjects are outstanding; however, the foreign language, especially Spanish needs an overhaul.
Outstanding guidance, science, math, english departments. Though Spansih is not at the same level, Latin & French students get great preparation. ECs are average, parent involvement & safety and discipline are high. The principal and vice principal are gems!
The math program in the school is very strong, while the language is pretty weak. Dover-Sherborn needs to improve its language program greatly.
While the test cores are good, Dover's small size limits the diversity of the students and the courses offered to them. Overall, if it was bigger, it would be better.
Could possibly be the best school in massachusetts. Excellent education, with inovative teachers who push students to acheive their true potential. Teachers try to challenge students by putting them into AP courses. DS has all the opportunties for a student to succeed. Athletically, the school produces some of the finest athletes with multiples student-athletes continuing their athletics at the college level. This year (2006)the lacrosse team made it to the state finals. I highly reccomend DS, and if you can't survive DS then you can't survive with the elite and most competitive bunch of kids.
Faculty and administration unite against parents and students with disabilities. STudent made to feel as though emotional problems the issue rather than DYSLEXIA. Worst of the worst, if your child needs real special education assistance, move to Holliston, MA, mentor school for special ed in MA. One town away, your child will drown. Dyslexic students told they come from a different gene pool.
