The academics here are bad. Most teachers do not teach you all the things you need to know for like MCAS for example. Most teachers do not prepare you well for tests. This school doe not prepare you well for college. This school is good for someone who wants to be a plumber or electrician or carpenter or welder but if you are someone who wants to go to college and go to a strong college and get a great job that doe not apply to shops in this school then I suggest going to another school. This school has a bad budget and the building inside may be clean but it is also older looking. The school safety here is not great. There was a threat against the school recently and the administration or faculty did not close school the day the shooter had said he would do it. There is a lack of buses at this school. The buses are always packed and sometimes ther are not enough seats and students will have to stand up. Some students will smoke weed or vape in the back of the bus and even though the bus drivers generally see it they do not do anything about it. There is also a lack of world language classes at this school. They only have an after school spanish class that is very hard to get into. This school also just barely meets the collge requirements. There is hardly an AP classes here and they sometimes do not have enough teachers for the AP classes so some students have to take honors instead. There is also no AP classes for history. Some of their curriculums such as biology and history were the same as middle school. The guidance counselors are terrible here and do not really help you. This school does not seem to care about the school academics. The school nurses here are terrible and make it such a hassle for you to get your medicine even when you have a doctors note on file. Teachers do not let you go to the bathroom during class. They expect you do it before class or after class when you only have 4 minutes to get to each class. There are double period english and math classes here along with science and it can be very dreadful. I understand it is hard to fit a lot of classes in to fit requirements due to shop being every other week but it is still important to allow for students to have more of a choice in their classes since students are more likley to enjoy them. A mojority of students here care more about partying and doing drugs than their academics.
The Dean of Students does not deal with it he just blows it off. Many counselors do not dreal with it properly either. They tell you to report it to the Dean of Students. There are more fights at this school and teachers do not generally care about bullying either and just tell you to report it to guidance or the Dean of Students. Many students also get blamed for nothing they did. So if a student reports that they saw bullying then they usually get blamed for part of the bullying.
Not many people at this school have leadership skills. Those that do can be very arrogant about their leadership skills. Not many teachers here know how to lead a classroom very well. There are only a few students and faculty that actually know how to lead in the correct way.
This school definitely does not. Many students here think that academics is a joke. Very few find academics important. More students care more about partying and drugs. A very big majority of students here do drugs. Many students are not respectful and do not act responsible casuing us to lose privileges. Not many students have a good attitude towards their future either. Most teachers do not help in the matter either as they also can be the same way.
The teachers do not really explain things very well and I have not learned very much with most of my teachers. There are very few teachers here that are effective and many teachers here are also very lazy and do not act professional. I have only learned from the effective teachers I have and that is not many.
The teachers give a lot of homework and they do not always explain the assignments. They also like to give it more on the computer so if there is a problem with your computer you have to stay after and do it in the library. It is not right since not all students like using the computer to actually do the assignment and turn it in electronically. I personally do not find it to be as effective for me since I do not learn as well from it.
This school really tries to foster academics and goes out of it's way to ensure no child is left behind. They have mandatory homework club for any student that starts to fall behind. My daughter is in the honors program and it is challenging and the teachers always push the students to do more. The only downside to this school is the girls sports coach. If your daughter plans on participating in sports this is not the school for you. The coach is a bully and many girls stop playing sports just so they don't have to play for him.
I love Tri-County! It is like home! Tri-County provided both our boys with the skill set and confidence they needed to succeed in anything they attempt. Whether it is Academics, Shop or Athletics the students are taught respect- respect for their facility, respect for others and mostly respect for themselves. The students are treated as members of the work force, they have responsibilities and are expected to do their job. The teachers are second to none. They go above and beyond to help any student who wants help. There are so many trades to choose from and the exploratory program gives each student a good overview of several of the different programs. Tri-County thoroughly prepares their students for what ever their futures holds. Tri-County also offers many extra-curricular activities and sports - nothing is missing to provide your child with a well rounded high school experience. Both of our sons have chosen different paths. One has worked hard in his trade and at 21 is a member of the Boston Pipefitters Union. The other son is attending college and loving it. Becoming a member of the Tri-County community was definitely the best decision we ever made. No regrets.
Tri-County, where would my kids be without you? They are thriving, happy and successful, and I am SO happy that we made the decision to send them there. It's the cleanest building I've ever seen, and the pride of both the students and the staff is evident. The vocational programs are varied and wonderful, and prepare the students for life after high school. The academic teachers are wonderful. They work so much with the students to help them become successful. A super place that I just can't say enough about. One of my children still goes back to visit her teachers after all these years. She was disappointed for her youngest brother that her favorite History teacher no longer works there.
