Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

A great small town school in a great small town. I attended myself years ago, and I currently have a fifth grader there. His teachers have always been wonderful, and he receives structured but fun leadership every day. Communications are strong, with the option to receive email communications. There are also some after school programs available to the children.

This is a response to the June 14th post regarding dress code......To the person writing the review if you were not there to view the incident I truly feel you have no right to comment.,... here say is here say and sometimes people and students embelish what actually happens...itis like playng telephone. As for Halifax as a school ......it truly has a great staff, all who care for your children and only want the best for them. MCAS score are on the rise and student growth for each student is impressive. So to keep things in perspective dress code is about morals and should be taken care of at home, academics is a school issue which should to be taken care of by the professionals .

I have growing concern over how the teaching staff choose to handle dress code issues. The dress code clearly states that a parent will be called if something is deemed inappropriate. In the last month i have heard directly from my child, (who seemed very upset), about an incident where boys were forced to take off their t-shirts in class and then turn them inside -out (suffering humiliation and inappropriate body exposure) and then just yesterday, how another boy was physically stripped of a sweater by a staff member. This crosses a line! If this were my child I would be filing an assault charge. Amazing to think I'm even having to post this about a school. Teacher's: You have a procedure to call parents - i propose you do just that & cease this unhealthy practice of shaming and getting physical with the children. Principal: Please have your staff re-read the section of your school policy that addresses what constitutes "bullying".

Halifax is a great small community! I've had 2 children attend Halifax Elementary school and my youngest child is now in 6th grade and off to middle school next year. I can't say enough good things about the school, how it is run, and what it offers. The staff is made up of very attentive and caring people and they are always there to help if there are questions or concerns. I will miss seeing the many nice people I have met once my child moves on to Middle School.

Poor communication between teachers and parents! You have to keep on them constantly about everything all the time. Its stressful, frustrating, and I worry every day about my child. Even with a child on an IEP. I don't have confidance in them and you can't take anything for granted.

Cannot believe how parent/school communication has decreased. There has been a new principal and the whole atmosphere has changed and not for the better. I used to be a very strong advocate of this school, but now I question if I should look toward home school or charter school, which is what led me to this site.
