With new administration we couldn't be happier with HMS. We have a new principal as well as assistant principal who are wonderful additions to the staff. The teachers are very involved in the school and are wonderful.
HMS has great teachers. They work hard to educate and challenge our children. However, it sometimes seems like an uphill battle. There is a serious lack of leadership in the school. There is a "Zero action for Bullying" rather than Zero Tolerance. Bullying is rarely addressed by the administration unless it is to punish the victims. The Principal is completely ineffective and mismanaged by the Superintendent. Special Needs is also lacking at this school. IEP's are poorly written, not followed and not enforced by administration. The school is great for middle to high achievers who fit in and are popular. However, the outsiders, the "square pegs" are jammed into their round holes. There is no acceptance of differences. They pride themselves on being a "W.E.B. School...Where Everyone Belongs". Nothing could be further from the truth!!
This is a good school with some great teachers who really care about the kids and encourage them to do their best. The teachers are available and are happy to discuss your child's progress or any other concerns you may have.
