very rounded educational program grear staff .Up to date cariculem.Large roomy class rooms.great location. Strong religious program.
My child attended St Michael for nearly three years, and was harassed endlessly by another child. While the education was good, the teachers were rigid and wouldn't respond to the constant bullying. The principal (Mary Frances Chisholm) verbally attacked me and berated my parenting skills when I met with her to address the situation. It was ugly, and I removed my child from this school. Essentially, the education is good, but they have no practical bullying policy--the staff can be as abusive to the bullied child as the bully. Be careful here.
St. Mike's is an excellent school with great leadership in Mrs. Chisholm and Mrs. Elias. I am not Catholic which worried me at first but my kids were welcome without hesitation. They have thrived at this school and the small, community feel has made this a place where I feel comfortable knowing that they are not just a number. The kids aren't coddled which is a relief in today's society. The weather has to be BAD for them to be kept indoors during recess and gym and I love the amount of fresh air they get. Parents are warned from the beginning that there will be scraped knees at the school yard and we just need to accept that. It's old-school education and I LOVE IT. I am considering moving from Lowell and my husband and I agree that St. Mike's is the only thing that has so far kept us here and given us hesitation about moving.
