Martinson is great. As the largest and newest of the 5 elementary schools I am proud to have purchased a home in this district. The parent involvement is high and more importantly, the teacher's are motivating and at the cutting edge of their profession. Martinson is fortunate to have MIMEO boards in every classroom K-5 where the students learn their academic skills in a 21st century environment. My children have made lifelong friends here and are well prepared to enter middle school when they leave.
While not under control of the school or teacher, I am not happy with class sizes over 22 children - and actually closer to 30. The ability for a teacher to give any specific attention is not available and it clearly comes across. Last year my child had 18 in his class and 15 the year prior and did significantly better.
I have a child in kindergarten and a child in 2nd grade. Both children enjoy going to school and speak highly of their teachers. The teachers and staff at Martinson are wonderful. It has only been a month since school has started, and I already see how much they have progressed. My 2nd grader is becoming a much better reader and her math skills have much improved. My kindergartener has made lots of friends and his writing of letters and numbers are much better. Both have adjusted well to their new grades. I am happy to say I have 2 children who look forward to going to school each day and 2 proud parents who look forward to seeing the steady stream of academic progression each day.
Martinson is a terrific school. The community of parents and teachers is wonderful. The mix of students is somewhat diverse economically which I believe is a true value. Parents are very involved within the school activities and outside activities. Martinson has the largest computer lab of all the elementary schools. The Kindergarten wing is brand new with separate playground, used only for them. The Principal inspires the Golden Rule and is very fair in all decisions.
