Something is wrong when the people teaching our children how to use our language cannot, themselves, make proper usage of "he" versus "him" or "she" versus "her" in a sentence. How can our children learn proper grammar, sentence construction, the proper use of pronouns, and difference between plural and possessive spelling of words when those charged with teaching them these things are incapable of doing so? Our society would be better served if our teachers had degrees in the subjects they teach rather than in "education." and if the curriculum in our public schools was returned to teaching the fundamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic, rather than the scatter-shot, diversity laden, teaching to the test method employed today. Teach as though high school is as far as our children will progress academically, so that they will be prepared to be contributing members of society with a H.S. diploma and stop assuming inadequacies will be addressed in college. Hire teachers with education certificates and degrees in the subjects they teach rather than those with education degrees. Many Ph.D.'s would jump at the average salary paid K-12 public school teachers in Massachusetts.
As a teacher, I feel this school is one of the best. They have a PTO meeting once a month and I feel the staff as a whole is on the same page. The special education in Milford is excellent (I am a special education teacher and my two nephews has special ed issues and attend Milford Public). The curriculum is really wonderful and up to date. I would definitely recommend this school to any parent !
I'm not impress with Milford school system. I hope they will do better, or I have to do something to make sure my kids get the level of education needed. It is an average school. Should be better.
I think Brookside is a great school. They really care about the students. Ms. Kay is doing a wonderful job...
My son, now in 4th grade attended Brookside and my daughter is currently a 1st grader at Brookside. I think Ms.Kay does a wonderful job running the school and her door is always open to students and their families. I believe Brookside provides outstanding academic, emotional, and social growth and helps create responsible young citizens.
This is our first year at Brookside, and I must say I am so pleased with our experience so far. The staff is exceptional and we are extremely pleased with the curriculum. There is so much to offer the children.
The faculty at Brookside has been nothing short of spectacular during the difficult transition between Memorial and Brookside. Helpful, caring and attentive to all matters, Kathleen Kay and her staff have gone above and beyond their duties to make every child feel comfortable and above all, safe in their new school. Having 1 child having gone through Brookside and one currently attending, I could not have asked for more from an elementary school staff. Although my children are not 'exceptional', they have received a great education and are treated equally, as part of the Brookside family.
If you want to get 10 different stories from 5 different people this is the school for you. The leadership from the school can't even remember the stories they tell their parents from one month to the next. I would not bring my exceptional child to this school system unless you want headaches and heart aches for both your self and your child. You can try to be involved with your child's education if you want the school staff to mock your participation.
