Profile Completeness

ADVANCED

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My daughter went through the Children's House program for 3 years, starting when she was 3. Her teachers have been truly excellent. They pay very close attention to each child and their interests, strengths, and areas for growth. They are skilled at guiding children in a positive and constructive way, so the classroom always feels orderly and respectful as well as active and busy. The school really takes the Montessori method and principles seriously, and everyone who works there puts the kids first. There are a lot of high-quality enrichment programs, from languages to chess to sports. The atmosphere is friendly and kind. The only criticism I have is that the school's parental network is mostly stay-at-home or flex-schedule moms, and so working moms and stay-at-home dads may find it hard to connect, get involved, setup play dates, etc. Expectations for parental volunteers can be unclear, and the Parent Association can be clique-ish. Overall, though, these are minor issues.... Riverbend is truly a great school. Well worth the money.

My daughter is in her 3rd year at Riverbend, and the changes I have seen over that time are amazing. She has such a love for learning and exploration because of all the wonderful things she has been exposed to at school. As she herself recently said, she has so many questions in her head that she wants to learn the answers to. I credit Riverbend for helping instill that curiosity in her. This year, we also sent our younger son to follow in our daughter's footsteps. He was a bit young for his class, but has made leaps and bounds with his capabilities in a short time. The amount of care, and I dare say love that his teachers show him has given him the confidence he needed to really spread his wings and take ownership of his classroom. Even though my daughter and son have different teachers, I have to say that the common characteristic I've found between the kids' classrooms is the care, warmth, and love that the teachers show toward my children. It makes all the difference to know that your children are in good hands, and I can't think of a better place for my kids to be than Riverbend. They love school, and that is only going to continue serving them well through the years.

We moved our child from public school to Riverbend mid-way through the 2011-2012 school year. We are so happy we made the switch! Our child entered 1st grade with strong academic skills, but in our local school she was losing ground, was starting to hate subjects she had previously adored, and was so unhappy that we had to find another school. We looked at 8 private schools, searching for small classes, individualized curriculum, robust math and reading programs, and a friendly atmosphere. Many schools had classes almost as big as public school, and their math and language instruction had the whole class learning the same things at the same time. At Riverbend we saw students move at their own pace through their work. The Montessori model builds enthusiasm by challenging students at an appropriate level daily, not by making them wait or by rushing them. Students also research and report on topics of interest throughout the year, giving kids a chance to hone writing and public speaking skills. Our daughter is flourishing at Riverbend. In the classroom and on the playground, everyone treats each other with kindness & respect. Riverbend is a gem!
