One child I am tutoring has recently switched to the Horace Mann School in Newton. He is making much better progress in reading and writing at his grade level now, and he has also become more cooperative.
They have great teachers.
I really didn't know an elementary school could be this good. I've been thrilled, not just happy, with nine of the 10 classroom teachers my children have had. (The other one was pretty annoying.) The teachers are hard-working, very smart, kind and insightful. Principal Russo fosters a respectful, fun environment where students give their best effort. The school is well-supported by students' families, in great part because of the confidence that the staff inspire. Special recognition is apt for David Tynes, the physical education teacher -- he runs classes where children of all abilities are both challenged and encouraged. That kind of full inclusion happens in classrooms as well.
Horace Mann is a wonderful community-based school with excellent teachers. They work in collaborative teams to ensure the best instruction for all children. They have extensive services for special needs and English Language Learners. Parents are very involved in terms of homework, volunteering in classes, and the PTO. They have extracurricular clubs such as the Social Action Club and the Spanish club.
