After our family moved to Norwood, my daughter transferred + started high school at the Norwood High.1) Even though she had played soccer for 3 three years in middle school, they refused to let her play with the school team because apparently she didn't do well enough.2) she had been an honor student all her life, but that was before NHS... She started struggling with Math since the beginning of the school year, nobody cared. I talked to the guidance counsellor numerous times about it but no concrete help was provided. Terribly awful support system for highschoolers who do whatever they want. Very concerned mother.
Great high school, i had great teachers. Students who work hard succeed no matter where they go to school. Norwood provided me with a good education, the AP classses were good. I earned both my BS and MS in engineering, and my class had 2 students accepted early action into harvard, 1 to Dartmouth, many to Tufts, Northeastern, and BU.
I am also a former student. I graduated just a few years ago, and had a wonderful experience at Norwood High. Now in college, I find that the Norwood schools did a fine job preparing me. Most of my friends were accepted into very prestigious colleges, more so than our private school aquaintances. Any student who values his or her education will most certainly succeed at Norwood High. The strong sense of community is another attribute that makes the learning enviornment so strong. I would send a child there without hesitation.
I am a former student that left for a private school because this school was so awful. The students dont care, and subsuquently neither do the majority of the teachers. The administration is awful as well. To do well in this school all one must do is come to class and not cause trouble for the teacher. You are guaranteed at least a B+ if you behave since the teachers are usually so busy disciplining the majority of the other students in the class.
Classrooms in disrepair. Not getting the best teachers, since surrounding towns offer better pay and support. It's too bad, but Norwood schools will get worse before the can get better.
