This is my son's first year at Sterling and I have to say I am very disappointed in the educational environment as well as the caliber of students that attend this school. The teachers teach "for the test" and focus exclusively on passing the MCAS as opposed to creating a learning environment for the students. My son has very little homework and the homework is much simpler than what I would expect for a middle school level. Quite a few of the students are clearly not interested in learning and have not had successful outcomes. My son will not be attending this school next year.

This is my sons first year at sterling middle school and we couldn't be happier, the teachers are awsome and I love the fact that the student teacher ratio is so low. I love the after school academics it is a very homey and welcoming school the principal knows all the students. So you feel like you ar part of something good. The school is very strict no bully tolerance and positive influence all around. I highly rec this school!

I hate it. The teachers are awesome but its so boring and never ever fun. I went to a way better aschool before this one and they need to improve a waaay lot. And leadership is low. And schedules are always screwed up and everyone is lazy.

Sterling Middle is a standout school. In particular, the music teacher Mr. Durst is awesome!!! What a great teacher, who also shows true compassion for his kids!

I love Sterling Middle School. My kids go there and say they love it and they have great extracurricular activities to do there. I went there as a kid and boy times haven't changed. When I went there it was the same building, rooms and gym. The teachers were the only thing that changed. I love this school and I hope everyone else does too!

I love attending sms as a student! The teachers can be strange at times, but all of them have positive attitudes toward their work. Mr. Metzler will find a solution to any and all problems brought to him! Sterling is a great school because it has a positive learning enviorment!

Past reputation of being a rough school has completely changed. Great staff from the top down has made Sterling a place of learning and growth. No bullying of any sort is tolerated. There is informal tracking for all learning levels, from SPED to gifted, although this is not the Quincy middle school designated for gifted students. Various afterschool activities make it possible for kids to stay until parents get out of work. The staff cares about every child, and tries to know every parent as well. Sadly, there is little parent involvement, due to single parent families and poverty. The physical building is old, but impeccibly clean and well cared for. The Sterling I attended in the 1970's was abysmal, today's Sterling is second to none.
