I attended Holy Family School as did my brothers. It was a great school then and continues to be a great school now. There isn't a perfect school out there and while I do not agree 100% with everything at HFS I know that I have happy kids that are thriving. Both my students are doing very well and the academics are superior to what their peers are learning in the local public school. Aside from the academics they are filled spiritually as well. From my experience there were 3 of us the went to HFS and continued on to private High Schools. I became a computer science major, one brother has his PhD. in Biology and does Bio Med research and the other is a Environmental / Chemical Engineer. I would say that we were all very well prepared for HS and the challenges after. My son was reading by October of his Kindergarten year and doing easy second grade math problems after Christmas break while his sister studied for speed math). They still teach the basics, including cursive which many public schools have done away with. Over all I would say that HFS is a welcoming community and prepares students for higher education and life in a safe and happy environment.

Such a shame; this school has deteriorated in the years since my daughter was in kindergarten. Terrible leadership in Mrs Cahalane, couldn't be more disappointed. The focus of the school should be on building up technology, but I've seen the school shy from it. Enrollment continues to drop, and I wouldn't be surprised if the archdiocese closed it.

This is one great school! Kids are great and the bonds among them are amazing. The teachers are fabulous and the kids love them. The disciplines are still in place (cursive, uniforms, etc). Computer lab is great - Smart boards are becoming common place., but The old school feel is still intact. I give a 3 for parent involvement, because most parents work full time. In order to volunteer you need to HOPE that you are able to make it to a VIRTUS training session. BUT - on the other hand, we know our children are safe at Holy Family. It's a great place to go to school! I don't know WHO would post a bad review about this school unless they were the parent that caused the issue in the first place. You truly cannot please everyone.

My children have been attending Holy Family School since kindergarten. We are so pleased with their academic achievements, but more importantly are proud of the compassion and empathy they have for others. Both are lifelong skills for future success. Perfect fit for us and would not consider sending them anywhere else.

I have sent all my children to Holy Family School and I can't say enough good things about it. The education is obviously superior. When children transfer in from other schools, they invariably have to spend a lot of time catching up. What this means, is that our children are always ahead. Education has always been of the utmost importance in our family and HFS is paving the way for my children's higher education. We don't worry about them getting into private high schools, because they not only get in, but have received all the top scholarships. I know for a fact that the private high schools understand how valuable the education is here. HFS students are placed in higher levels because the schools know, that an 'A' here means more than an 'A' elsewhere. The principal truly cares and is very involved. I love that my children are taught religion and taught to care about the people around them. Education is not about the building, it's about the people inside who truly make a difference. No school or situation is ever perfect, but HFS comes pretty close. I have been a very satisfied parent for over 25 years. My oldest is in her 4th year of Medical School. Thank you HFSl!

I absolutely love this school! Every family I have met has been so wonderful. There is such a strong community feel amongst the students and their families. My son has done very well here. The academics are a step above but fun. The new principal Mrs. Calahane has really brought a renewed spirit to the school.

HF has been a giant blessing to our family! It has completely changed not just my child's life but our whole family's. The entire school, parents included are so welcoming!

Fantastic school, top notch curriculum. Language starting in 4th grade, computer class starting in kindergarten. New principal has really opened up communication with the parents. We moved from a fairly highly ranked Massachusetts public school, and the curriculum here is considerably more advanced.

What was once a wonderful school it is now a toilet. Poor leadership. Poor communication. Unhappy teachers. This once beautiful faith-filled, community-spirited school has crumbled with the current leadership. It will take years to rebound.

I have to agree that the communication is poor between parents and the school. None of the teachers at the school will communicate by e-mail. They pretty much close the doors to parents. Is it too much work for them? As a result, we never felt part of their "community". So, we moved to a better school district and went to public school. Such a shame because otherwise HF a decent school.

I can't disagree more with review left 10/17/09. The majority of families are hard working, middle class who sacrifice to provide the best education possible. We may drive older cars, and take fewer vacations. Also, in terms of fashion, one of the perks of wearing a uniform, is that the level of fashion competion is minimal. I'm sure there are exceptions to this, and I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but we love it! Also, all parents are encouraged to participate in the many social activities for the children and as an active member, we are always happy to see new faces. We I don't feel I need to be in the classroom in order for my child to get a great education. Most importantly, the curriculum is challenging and above grade level in most cases. They are not taught only to pass MCAS, but well rounded courses. Rockland

My kids really disliked it at Holy Family. New kids are bullied and kids are discriminated against by their peers if they don't have the newest jacket or by how much money they have. A great deal of the kids are snobby and there are no opportunities for parents to volunteer. I pulled my children out of Holy Family and put them into the Rockland public school system and they are much happier.

Acedemics at HFS vary with some grades very strong while others are ridiculously weak. Extracurricular activities are minimal. Parental involvement is restricted to say the least. Parents are not welcomed in the school and have to fight to get in. There are no volunteer opportunities for parents during the school day with the exception of one week a year when people in the know can volunteer for Catholic schools week activities. Parents are encouraged to help raise money for the school I(basically the only way to volunteer) but are rarely allowed to give input in that capacity either. Every activity is dictated by a select group with little opportunity to break through. Very disappointing!

Holy Family School is providing my children with an incredible education. Acedemically, the school is very strong with experiences that provide challenge and a sense of accomplishment. Spiritually, the staff creates a nurturing environment that is Christ centered. Socially, the students come from various socioeconimic backgrounds so as to make a diverse community reflecting what children will face out in the real world. The school provides a well rounded educational experience that I cannot recommend highly enough.

Holy Family School is exactly what we were hoping to find for our daughter's grammar school education. The quality of this school's academic curriculum is enhanced by its outstanding faculty under the direction of a principal who we consider to be an educational visionary. The level of quality of classroom work achieved by the students is outstanding. Holy Family School fosters an educational environment which we have come to find amplifies each student's ability to learn and achieve personal greatness. Our own daughter is performing at her full capacity and she is having a wonderful academic year. Holy Family School is truly a christian school, where dicipline is applied justly and lovingly. The mutual attitude of respect between faculty, students and parents is refreshing. We are a Catholic family and relish the excellent religious training and opportunities to worship our faith openly as well as celebrate holy days as a Catholic school community. Thank you.

Holy Family School develops more in our children than just academics. My daughter prays to God every morning, thanks the Lord for her food at lunch, pledges alligence to our country's flag each day and knows all her teachers, fellow students, the parents and clergy want all the children to be the best they can be, both scholastically as well as spiritually. My daughter feels a sense of belonging at Holy Family School. She is learning more there than just math and spelling.

We used to write on the backs of flyers and were always cold. This school set me back when compared to public schools. My math skills took years to develop due to poor background from this school!

We are blessed to have found this school. The academics are challenging, the leadership is dedicated and the spirituality is contagious. They prepare the students for the many challenges they face in life. Great parental involvement as well.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
