Has a terrible support system for students with IEPs. The head of the department Mona Blumstien once said in court "there is no purpose to an IEP". If your child has a learning disparity or a language base on don't send your child here. Try landmark or move to another town.
The school is very helpful with kids to be in the right classes and get the right help when they need it. The teachers there help the kids all they can it just wonderful. The school could improve by letting their student view and learn new things outside of the schoolhouse and get the students to have another perspective on things
Ok people, Mr. Watson may have not been the best principal, but With the new principal and vice principal the school is functioning better than ever. If your child is failing they need to approach the teacher themselves, they cant expect to have their parents do everything for them until they are 18. Overall I think Swampscott middle school is more then great. THe teachers are nice, and they will help you after school if you ask. All in all I think Swampscott schools are excellent.
the SMS is an amazing school. now moved on to high school, i find myself pining to return to the middle school to visit teachers and be welcomed back into the caring environment. all of the teachers care and cherish their students as well as educate them to their fullest potential. i believe that evey teacher there wants each and every student to succed, and helps them develop as a person, not only as a student. thanks for the memories SMS, they are everlasting. miss all my teachers that made a huge impact on my life. am,cp,ar,kr,id,br,tb,gk,mc...and many more thank you._class of '07
my daughter seems to like the middle school. she is on an IEP plan and really gets the support she needs. she is now an high honors student thanks to all the wonderful support. we are very happy to have mrs. rostoff to help my daughter and other children that need the support!
I THINK THE SWAMPSCOTT MIDDLE SCHOOL IS JUST OKAY. SOME OF THE TEACHERS ARE GREAT AND OTHERS ARE OKAY. I THINK ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT EACH AND EVERY CHILD FEELS SPECIAL. I THINK THEY NEED TO DO MORE ABOUT THE BULLYING IN THE SCHOOL. THAT SHOULD NEVER BE ALOUD AND SHOULD BE TAKING SERIOUSLY.
Although I was pleased with the school when we first attended, I was quickly disappointed in the school staff. Their principal Mr. Watson is not qualified and is more than rude to the parents. The assistant principal Ms. Bonomolo and the guidance counselor Ms. Chennery are useless when your child needs help. This is not a great place if you want your child to get an education. We hired a math tutor in order to undo the damage this school did to our child's math skills. Well at least he is in a better school now and should have better prospects in the future.
It was really great. The teachers were amazing and taught well. The school is organized and well disaplined
I think that the principal, Mr. Ralph Watson, should actually contact parents when they call. Maybe he could also be more involved with the kids. The teachers, however are wonderful. The school is quite safe, but not because of the principal. It is safe simply because it is the town of Swampscott, with very little crime rate. The assistant principal, Mrs. Lay, unlike Mr. Watson, is wonderful, and I find that she interacts well with the students.
I have been delighted with the quality of the academic programs and the willingness of the teachers to cater to the needs of the individual student at Swampscott Middle School. The variety of activities available to the students and the participation of the parents I have found to be outstanding. They have been particularly sensitive to the anxiety my child was feeling in moving to this school district. He has met a truly good bunch of children who have helped us greatly with the transition. The teachers have all reached out to my child to make his experience a good one and he is excelling in his studies.
My daughter is in SMS right now and we are happy with The School. Dr. Landman's (the former principal's) retirement last year left a void that will be hard to fill. His legacy lives on with the great teachers he cultivated. SMS is a rigorous school in an upper middle class community. It nice to be able to send my daughter to a public school that is safe, has teachers that care and actually provides an education.
Either you love it or you hate it. In my case unfortunatly I hated it. I came here from another city and the transfer was hard. It was very hard to make friends because everybody already has there group of friends and doesn't want anyone else I guess you could put it that way. They aren't very accpeting unless you wearing name-brand stuff. The kids are very immature and loud. If you haven't lived here for your entire life you don't belong there. The teachers aren't very understanding. All in all Swampscotts not a good place unless you grew up there.
I am not at all happy with this school; I think the teachers really need to take more time with the studuents that are having a harder time adjusting and learning; We were informed by the guidence counselor that poor grades were unacceptable, but yet my son seemed to fail 3 subjets with F's each quarter and he was still promoted: When I inquired about this I was informed by her they don't keep the kids back it's not there problem that they flunked and that's what entering the High School is for, if they can't make the grade and get the points they get kept back; They also inform the child summer school is 'optional'! To me any school that promotes a failing child does NOT have the childs best interest at heart. I'd considner a different school if I were YOU.
The SMS is a very good school! Dr. Landman does an amazing job. He knows evry student by name and cares greatly of the school. On the inside the school is decieving because the inside is a warm and safe enviorment. It is truly a great school!
Dr Landman is a gifted Principal. He knows every student and has created a positive and comfortable environment for learning. The teachers do all that they can can help the students to succeed. Don't let the old building fool you, this is a top notch school and I am so glad my son goes there!
Well, I'm not a parent, I'm a former student who moved away one month into the sixth grade. Now I'm in 8th grade here in Florida. I loved the Middle school in Swampscott. It was a safe environment where I could sit with my friends at lunch and could get the proper education needed. I learned a lot there not only about the given subjects but also about life. My teachers took the initiative to help me in my studies as well as the problems I may have faced. I appreciate the efforts they gave and miss the school very much. I hope I can come to visit those (teachers)who cared about me. Sincerely, Kate Sobelman
