My daughter attended the school from 1st through 12th, graduating and now attending one of the nation's top schools. She was a student who struggled but with guidance and the support of the school and my wife and i she has achieved her dream school and has been highly successful in her first year of College. Children and parents need to take responsibility for their education. Youths who are motivated and interested in going in depth, creating year long portfolio studies, engaging in work and meeting personal goals should enroll. Students who go to the school have to engage in serious work and pass state examinations as well as school assessments based on what they show they can do. I know that for some students high school is a difficult time, as a public school the Charter School doesn't choose who can attend and does the best possible job for each individual student.

This is a highly functioning K-8 school. The self-directed learner concept does NOT work for high school students however! I have seen with my own eyes how this fails high school students in so many ways. Here are a few: 1. No consistent policy for discipline, resulting in unchecked behavior including inappropriate behavior and swearing 2. Expectations are lowered due to no one wanting to do anything because there are no actual grades, therefore resulting in no motivation 3. Tipped classroom demographic forcing high achieving students to be left by the wayside as they patiently wait for teachers to reach students who do what ever they want during class 4. low daily attendance, with NO repercussions 5. students who are lied to in regards to an actual G.P.A. equation for merit based schools who won't accept the "feel good" assessments teachers write 6. High school students who openly admit that they can't believe they receive a high school diploma for the little work that they have completed Do not send your high school student here, it is scary. It is a horse and pony show where there is a meeting about everything and a consistent solution for little.

I have two boys at the MVPCS. The environment is caring. The staff is dedicated to educating each student on an individual basis. The parents are involved in the long term planning as well as day to day activities. Great environment, great philosophy, great implementation.

My daughters attend the school and I teach in the upper grades. I love the school, our mission, and the dedication of my co-teachers, staff students and parents to the success of the program.
