As a unique individual I had a terrible time at Rivers. My parents thinking that I was receiving a great education made me stay for 2 years. When I was being bullied and asked a teacher for assistance I was told to stop acting out. I would cry myself to sleep every night. Having gone to a great public school afterwards (by choice) I must say I have grown so much both as a person and academically.

My son attended Rivers from grade 6-12; he was taught to work hard, be organized, and to develop good social and athletic skills. The faculty support was outstanding and the small class size was a constant. Guidance in college selection was excellent and my son is now a junior, doing very well at a college he loves. Rivers is an independent school and relatively expensive, but I believe it is worth every penny of what it costs. We knew families that we presumed were receiving assistance and we saw no difference in the way they were treated during school activities. There were cliques among the students but my son managed to get along with most of his classmates without getting drawn into such things as far as we know. I think Rivers was just what we needed!

Great school academically. Small class size and individual attention. Horrible in diversity efforts and overall little respect for families in lower income brackets.

A fine choice for the smart jock, RIvers is not a welcoming place for the quirky or gifted child. Social structure is strongly based on perceived family income and sports ability.

Though I admit Rivers offers an enriching education taught by memorable faculty and staff members, I did not appreciate the social aspects of the school. Rivers claims to be a safe and welcoming community, but as a student of four years, I can honestly say that that statement is practically false advertising. Unnecessary racist and homophobic incidents, a disgustingly clique-y and judgemental student body take away from what is capable of being a fitting institution for every prospective student.

I had a great experience attending Rivers. It was a perfect fit for me and those seeking a small school with incredible faculty. The school truly cares about their students and wants help them succeed. I was on some very good athletic teams and the classroom experience was great. I felt that it got me ready for college life and the schedule, tempo, and overall experience that I encountered there. Great place and would recommend to anybody.

My son attended Rivers from Grades 7 to 12 and received an outstanding education. The student to teacher ratio allows for small class sizes where every student participants. The staff is always available for extra help and go out of there way to support the students. Rivers is an opportunity of a lifetime!

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
