Our child was bored and not challenged at WES and when he began to tune out he was labeled as a possible attention deficit disorder. While his 3rd grade teacher was able to make progress with him his 2nd grade and 4th grade teachers were clueless about how to relate to him and blamed him for the problem. The principal (now retired) backed them up and we got no where. The new principal was someone who was very good with our child as the math tutor and perhaps she is making positive changes. WES is fine for many kids, but we're glad we're out f there.

After visiting the school I was very impressed with the building. After a few months of my daughter attending 3rd grade coming from Allendale school in Pittsfield, MA I soon learned that she was far ahead of her classmates at WES in reading, math, spelling, and most other subjects. I am not impressed with this school whatsoever. Even the school lunches do not offer the nutrition they should. Over all I am extremely disappointed with the school and the staff.

WES is a new 'Green' school which integrates my childs learning with actual real world situations. The teachers are motivated and creative, the parents are extremely involved in all aspects of the school, and the community makes a priority to expand our childrens curriculum outside of the school. Art, music, history, and sports are all lavished on our kids. WES is a proactive and very evolving environment!

About the tests

In 2010-2011 Massachusetts used the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) to test students in grades 3 though 8 and 10 in English language arts and math and in grades 5, 8, and 10 in science. The grade 10 MCAS is a high school graduation requirement. The MCAS is a standards-based test, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Massachusetts. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the test.
