Atlanta Community Schools are being proactive and innovative to provide the best for its students. I am very impressed with the mindset and new leadership it now has. Congratulations on thinking outside of the box to help make ends meet Atlanta!

The new principal has cut school days to 4 days a week for a estimted savings of 25,000 dollars. A nearby school (Hillman) just recieved a bunch of new technology equipment for students. I dont understand why one school is failing and another is doing so WELL. I believe that I know the answer now, it's gotta be the principal! Get rid of STAUFFER now and I bet the problem melts away like SNOW. I'm about to transfer my 3 kids to Hillman just like another parent of 3 - so with those 6 children gone, and the funding for them also gone, exceeding 25,000 in funding, then what? Stauffer has NO clue what she is doing - send her back to TC

There is no need to comment on this school.... The state test scores speak for themselves. You see, in a school of this size there is only one teacher per grade level up through grade 6... Therefore, when you look at the data... If only 44% and 60% of kids are passing the MEAP then there isn't a group of teachers per grade level to point the finger at, there is only one. Come on people! Work hard or retire! These kids deserve an education that will get them out of Atlanta someday!

Lack of parent involvement very evident and lack of teacher preparedness. The teacher couldn't pronounce child's name in the middle of May and it's not a difficult name.

This schools needs to do an overhaul on the teachers. They need to take more time with the kids so they can learn. There was a bright spot in the 06-07 school year and that was a new 4th grade teacher that is no longer there. I am not sure what happened but the schools system dropped the ball by letting her go.

the classrooms are unruly, disruptive and the teachers have no control. the students that want to learn cant and the ones who dont want to learn get all the attention.

I have to disagree with the other review on this school. I feel this school has been pulling itself out of a hole and each year they continue to get better both financially and also with the quality of education. The involvement with the teachers and the students are excellent. Those students that are struggling are given the extra needed attention and support. And the method of teaching has been excellent. Sports are just a part of this school and even though some feel that they tend to put more focus on this than the education received is not true.

Academic programs are ok, but not when compared to neighboring schools. Too much emphasis on sports when the money could be better used elsewhere within this struggling school. They claim to want parent involvement, but not when it pertains to the actual education of a child. Getting someone to listen and help when your child needs extra help falls on deaf ears. Basically none of the teachers require anything of the students. They can hand in work whenever, or never hand it in and parents are not kept aware of these problems. This school needs stricter teachers who actually want to teach and can keep control of their classrooms. Current administration is doing better than the past administration. They have areas of lacking, but they are working on overcoming a mountain of problems from the past.
