My 3 children attended this school for 4 years. The preschool is wonderful but that is as far as it goes. My daughter had nothing but issues and is now behind in the public schools but was top of her class there.

We pulled our 3 kids out of this school after 1 1/2 months. Our straight A students were pushed aside by teachers who had to spend their time keeping undisciplined kids in line. The specials classes were a joke. No art and the band instrument we went out and bought wasn't even touched most days because the class was so out of control. We choose to drive our kids 20 miles away now so they can attend a FANTASTIC school. Sad thing is we only live 3 minutes (if we hit all the lights) away from BCPSA.

What a great school Bay County Public School Academy is. My daughter attended for 3 years. My only regret is that I did not begin her in kindergarten. The staff and teachers continue to go out of their way to make each child feel special and teach them all at their own pace. My daughter excelled in many areas but was slow in one. They worked with her. Her MEAP scores rocked this year. She will be off to middle school Extremly well prepared. Thanks Bay County Academy, she and I will both miss you.

I have one child attending this school and find it to be outstanding. It is focused on each individual student abilities to achieve It ranks up there with private schools. The school for the 2008-2009 school year has been a wonderful experience from parent involvment opportunies, to activites for parents to attend an become better educated about learning disabilites, social emotional behavior, previews of what our children are learning in school now compared to what we learned, and in depth study of social studies called paragon. I can't say enough wish I had found this school when my other children were younger. The staff is fantastic the teachers go above and beyond and the class size is aroend 17 per class give it a try you can always go back to what you have now

I have two children at Bay PSA and I could never say enough good about this school. Both of my children were accepted to the local 'gifted' program. After researching both schools I found this school had a better curriculum and focused more on individual learning than the 'gifted' program. I find it sad the local newspaper has given this school horrible publicity, it simply proves to me, you can barely believe a thing you read. If you are looking for an amazing school to place your child with High or Low achieving capabilities, this school is perfect. They teach to the child, not the classroom as a whole. Each child is assessed and giving a program to meet His or Her needs, not the needs of the child next to him or her! And they teach all the children, that all children are special, not just the gifted . 5 stars for staff and curriculum.

I have three children at BCPSA and love it! My children are high acheivers and the school provides extended learning opportunities for them. The teachers know who their students are and work beautifully with them!

I'm not sure I should even be writing a review for this school, as my son has not attended it. He was set to begin this Fall in the pre-school program. I have backed him out of it, in favor of a different program, however. I had several questions that I wanted answers to, before I would entrust my child to their school. I am very concerned about the academic quality of any school that will teach my child. I am also very concerned about his safety. I called, I visited in person, I tried everything I could think of to get them to answer my questions. I could NEVER get anyone to meet with me, or even return my phone calls. They were inattentive to the point that it seemed they were hiding something. If they can't be bothered with showing their school off, they don't deserve my trust.

Amazing Opportunity! This school is a fantastic school! The new Principal is a wonderful, caring individual who is directing everyone in this building to be educationally minded. Stretching the child's imagination, goals, and character to reach to the next level. If you've left for ehatever reason, try giving BCPSA a second chance! You will be pleased!

I have 3 Grand Children who attend this school. I think the teaching staff and quality of the program is great. My problem is the administration and above. They have little to do with the families, they do not want to spend money to help our children and they show great favorities for some students over others. If the admistration does not change and quickly this school will not survive.

I thought the teacher quality was fabulous. My two children attended for one year at the academy but I wasn't impressed with the 'overall' picture of the school. I felt that the PTA was clicky. I offered to volunteer numerous times and was hardly ever contacted to help. I also think they are in high need of a gifted and talented program. Because of the lack of it, I decided to transfer my kids to a different school that could offer it. I know of quite a few families that also transfered for this reason. I thought the extra activities in the school were inconsistent and the communication between the principal and office staff was very much lacking.

Very pleased. Great staff. The curriculum is wonderful and each student has varied opportunities to be successful. For a new school it is going nowhere but up!

i have been waiting for 2 years to be able to have my child attend. this year, he started kindergarden, but my neice and nephew have attended since they opened the doors and i think it is absolutely wonderful. i keep nagging for a pre-school program so my youngest can attend. that is how excited i am for my children to get their education here.

Theh teachers are wonderful and are excellent teachers...it is the inconsistency of the administator.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
