The academic rating of 3 out of 10 speaks for itself. Absolutely the poorest academic program around. And how do they get away with not even sending in the MEAP's last year? Teacher turnover is massive because teacher's are booted out constantly. Resource room services are a complete joke. Don't send your child here.
We at Grattan Academy believe in it 'it takes a village' concept of learning. I have never seen a school that not only cares about the students but the families as well. Our students are taught at there individual ability. I is definitly the best place for my kids. I would have them no where else.
Grattan academy was a great school. The academics were superior and student behavior was outstanding. Over the past year with the change in leadership and loss of GREAT staff the schoolhas changed. There does not seem to be anyone around that believes in the school and what we were told it was supposed to be. What used to be a friendly, family atmosphere has turned into a place of paranoia. The students are no longer the focus of the teachers it is saving their jobs. Leadership is lacking. It seems the focus is changing. Why on earth are they trying to fix something that wasnt broken. Grattan Academy has gone from the best school in the area (in my opinion) to mediocre at best. I do not see what is special about it, what we get there you can get anywhere.
Grattan Academy is a great school, where you can get a private education at a public school price! The differinciated learning is second to none!
Grattan Academy High School is magnificent. The academics are superior to other schools in the area. My student is pushed to excel in all of their classes. They have added an Advanced Placement curriculum this year which my child is really lookin forward to participating in in the future. There have a wonderful art program. Although they do not have many other elective choices, I am sure this will improve in the future. Their sports are improving every year. This school is exactly what this area has needed. As a partent I have never been ignored or overlooked and I have been as involved as much as I have wanted.
Grattan Academy Elementary is outstanding. The staff, academics, students, and parents are excellent. My child is now at the high school building and I am not as impressed. The high school campus is a different story. The work doesn't seem to be as challenging as it could be. The staff is more close minded expecting all students to do the same work. The availability of elective classes is non-existant which may encourage students to attend other high schools. The parental involvement is slowly improving, but could be better.
When they opened the high school up it was our answer to the problem we were having with public school. Public school was over crowded and it was not dealing with his problems and actually was making it worse. Grattan is small and is so much better for a learning environment. One thing that is missed is the male teachers. Grattan is 99% female teachers which I think leads to some of the problems in child control. The class subjects, work and projects are challenging and do make the children think. If you want to be involved as a parent, you have to keep up and push your way into the school, otherwise you are not updated with the school happenings like you would be in the public sector. The long term outlook is that this school does prepare them to be college bound.
Our son wanted out of the public schools because the other children are so disrespectful. We found Grattan Academy and there is not the disrespectful students like you see in public schools. Grattan teaches the children to be responsible for their own actions and and don't push problems under the rug like some schools. When there is a problem, they take care of it. The teachers are very good. Grattan is a college prep school so the work is a little harder but my son loves the challange.
We are so glad we found Grattan Acadamy! We had homeschooled our children because we weren't satisfied with the way today's schools were run. By chance, we found Grattan and it has changed our view of the school system. Our children thrive at their own pace, are taught the proper way to learn, respect others, and prepare for the future. Unlike other schools, Grattan encourages parent participation. We are welcomed with open arms, anytime we visit the school. The staff is so well qualified not only to teach academics, but also to lead our children on the right moral path in life. Without Grattan, we would still be homeschooling. We are truly blessed to have found Grattan! Our children wake up everyday wanting to go to school, in fact they are dissapointed when there is a snow day! One day after an ice storm, when school was cancelled, I found my daughter trying to put on ice skates so she could skate to school, just so she could go! My children love Grattan Acadamy just as much as we do!
