My family and I moved her in 2007 with hopes of that our son would transition into the public school scene with no problems. We were Wrong! His first year was a parent's worse nighmare. Failing grades and just an overall change in his attitude towards learning. He attended private schools for most of his education, so we knew the transition could go either way. After looking back over the past 2 years, I wish I would have purchased a home in Canton. This is my son's last year at Belleville South and we are both counting the days.

Some of these parents do not understand how hard these teachers try and help your child be successful.I'm not a parent but a student at South Middle School ! I've seen how disrespectful some of my classmates are to these teachers.I'm not a geek or anything but i know how to treat people older than me with respect!! Some of these parents are blaming things like bad grades on the teachers but that's not true I have seen teachers ask if a student wants help but they refuse. Some teachers get so upset that the student is not paying any attention and playing around and not making any effort to learn that they have no choice but to send them out in the hallway to do work out there. So please remember that the teachers at South Middle School are trying very hard!

My son is in seventh grade at South and I've never had a problem getting a hold of his teachers or the administration. I've had them call me in the evening to discuss issues with his social and/or educational development. Does the school have problems, of course. Mostly with kids who don't want to be there and parents who think that school is a babysitting service. I'm sorry but I'd really like to see a 10/10 school. Did you ever read your child's planner? The school provides them free to every student and there is a wealth of information inside it plus you can give/ receive notes to each teacher.

I have to agree with most of these comments. When I purchased my home in Belleville, I was lead to believe that the schools were going to become better. That a new high school was going to be built. My son attended Livonia schools prior to attending Savage and he did wonderfully. Sixth grade hit and I couldn't believe it when I got his progress report. I couldn't believe that not one of his 8 teachers didn't call me to make me aware of his 8 failing grades. When I called the school to schedule a conference with the teachers the school counselor took 1 week to get back to me. Meeting with the teachers was a disappointment. I got excuses as to why they thought that he was failing and no ideas on how to help. To sum it up he will be attending Keystone for 8th grade.

I agree with other reviews. I am very disappointed in this school. Impossible to get in touch with teachers, parent connection is not accurate, progres reports not accurate. You call with a concern and even the principal cant fit it in her schedule to call you back. These teachers want parent involvement only when they need something. Its a 'C' rated school due to the poor communication, with parents and students. The acedemic's should be a #1 concern, promoting these kids. The principal spends her day disciplining. I am exhausted from my child coming home and telling me how teachers freak out, scream at, call the kids names and cry in front of our kids. But teachers are not held responsible. If you want to meet a teacher impossible. Even conferences you never can meet them or ask questions. Frustrating.

I am not a parent by I am on of the eighth grade students that attend. Some teachers do not care much for the school, but some care a lot. Not enough teachers at the school are willing to go the extra mile for their students to pass which i beleive is horrible. Princible Ms. Herring doesn't take much of an active role in helping teachers, but Vice Princible Mr. Lindsay does. The school also has low income, low MEAP scores, and low teaching standards.

The teachers and principal at South Middle schools have made efforts to improve the overall quality there. I have never had a problem contacting a teacher or the principal if I have a concern. If they didnt care and take interest in the students they wouldnt respond the way they do. Parental involvement makes a big difference also, where are the parents who have problems with the teachers and their children? Are they involved in helping the teachers improve or are sitting back just critizing them? If more parents would get involved and support them, I am sure more would improve.
