I spent hours researching schools, visiting schools and comparing schools before choosing Chandler Woods for my daughter. She fits in well with her peers. The teachers and support staff have been very willing to work with her where she needs help and quick to compliment her on her strengths. The IEP meetings actually leave me feeling relieved and supported instead of helpless and defensive like I felt at our former school district. The parents are very involved, the kids show maturity and respect to each other and to adults. I have been very pleased with our experience at this school.
We have been to two charter schools in the area walker and chandler, both EXCELLENT. Kids Love it!!! I have a 7th grader, K, Young 5's, we came from the local public school, wish I would have gotten my oldest in yrs ago. School is FUN Kids are good, teachers and staff amazing. My oldest went from c's and f's to A B student. Can't say enough check it out!
Chandler Woods is awesome! The sports program is great, every student who wants to play, gets to play. The teachers are caring and get to know every student. The academics are great, advanced classes if you qualify. Great small school.
I have two children currently attending Chandler Woods. They have been there since Young 5s and Kindergarten. The teachers are responsive, professional, and caring. When my son and his friend experienced a small problem with bullying last year, it was immediately handled to my satisfaction and there were no problems since. My only complaint is the traffic getting in and out of school in the morning and afternoon. It can be quite dangerous at the intersection of Post and Samrick during these times. The speed limit should be reduced and/or a traffic light put in place.
If I could give this school zero stars, I would. We were fine with this school until our daughter was inappropriately touched by a male student in her class. After the administration learned of it by way of other students, they interviewed our daughter twice over two days before ever contacting us. They also did not report the incident to the police, and our attempts at communicating with superintendents at the National Heritage Academy corporate offices went unanswered. As far as I could tell, this school is conveniently unaware of Title IX requirements and the Michigan law that these types of situations are to be immediately reported to the parents and to the police. A very disappointing reality check for our family. Back to public schools we go.
CWCA has been a positive experience for my family. The assemblies encourage confidence by allowing the students to present moral focus topics in front of the whole school starting from kindergarden. The principle/assistant principle are visible and out side EVERY morning and afternoon to great and promote saftey. The dress code is very respectable and removes inappropriate distractions. I LOVE THIS SCHOOL>
I think Chandler Woods is by far the Best School around! I have had my Sixth Grade daughter there since Kindergarten I am hoping for a High School......I was reading some of the negative comments about Chandler Woods and I have to disagree with them cause this school goes above and beyond for the kids and the Staff are a blessing and they really care! In this School there is no kid left behind! Keep up the Great Work Chandler Woods!
The staff is a collection of highly qualified and motivated individuals who really care about not only education, but also the individual welfare of each student. If you are luck enough to get your child into this free school. You will be delighted with the charismatic and truly talented teachers such as Kristin Downs, Jerry Anderson, Jennifer Carlson and Dennis Kaboos.
I love Chandler Woods!!! I helped on the kindergarten graduation for 2007, and I could not believe the support received from not only the teachers, but other parents, and staff members. The evening was a success! Thank you Mrs. Grimm and Mrs. Compton for all your hard work and enthusiasm you bring to class each and every day.
I took my daughter out of a class A school because they couldn't keep her safe. After they had lost her the second time, I thought that was too many. She is thriving and adjusting well due to the wonderful staff. I thank them for keeping my little girl safe.
I have lived in 3 states and myself attended many schools and I can honestly say I have never seen a school this incredible. This school is well rounded and the kind of place you want for your kids if you are a parent who goes the extra mile for your kids.If you truly care about the education they receive & the kind of person they become then this is the place for your family.Problems that do arise are handled practically & effiectly.I had a child attend 2-8th grade and make a smooth adjustment into public high school.I was told at high school conferences from several of my childs teachers that the kids who come out of this school have a different kind of character and responsibility, speaking of many Chandler Woods grads. My other child has attended k-3 and will go thru 8th.It doesn't get better than this.
I love this school! I am so grateful that they built this Charter School in this area. It is surrounded by strong Public Schools, yet it continues to to add more classes and keep a waiting list.Their MEAP scores are higher then any other school in the area and the children learn moral focus values to help them grow into healthily adults. The staff work together as 'team players' for the good of the children.Everything needs a good foundation to stand strong, including a childs education, that is what I found here at Chandler Woods Charter Academy,(K-8th grade) I only wish they offered a High School to.
We have been a part of Chandler Woods since it's opening in 1999. One of my children attended from 2nd grade thru graduating 8th grade. We have another child who is on his 4th year. Our last child will also attend school here. This is the kind of place you can feel confident about sending your kids to. The way they are able to combine education, hands on learning, morality, caring and social awareness is incredible. Kids learn in a well rounded environment and really have fun going to school and learning. This is a school and like ALL schools there are always some issues however parent involvement in problem solving is encouraged. You decide how involved you are. This is an incredible place.
We Love Chandler Woods! It has been and continues to be a great experience for our child who will be entering the 5th Grade this fall. Before CW we were at a public school that was out of control. The kindergarden class had 32 students and one teacher with no help. It was chaos. At CW they limit class size and give a top rated education - Just check out the MEAP scores! That will tell you what our school has to offer.
We are huge advocates of Chandler Woods. Our children have attended CW since 2003. We could not be happier with our decision to attend. Our children love school, and I love the moral focus! I know that they are being thaught the same values at school that we are teaching at home. We have had nothing but great experiences with the staff. You could not ask for a better principal that Fred Slade!! He is great, and the kids love him too!! I know that our voices are heard, and the parental involvment is huge. I do agree that the parking lot can be crazy, however all it takes is patience. I feel that the kids are safe, as thy have added crossing guards in addition to the stff at the cross walks.
I sent my children to this school for 3 years. The upper Elementary teachers are big ego people, The middle school part is horrible. My child was teased and threaten (bodily harm)daily and no one did anything because the kids doing it were teacher pets and always in trouble so no one cared. The parking lot is dangrous someday some child will get hurt, but they really don't care about that either. Don't was your gas money, you can get the same education for your child at the public schools in your area.
I am a mother of 5, and 2 of my children attend CW, next year 3 will be. I love the school, and not only do I agree with the dress code, I actually wish they would go to uniforms. There is nothing rediculous about modest non-distracting attire. This school has a more strict cirriculum and helps the individual child achieve his/her full potential. There is more writing assignments and homework than traditional public school, but I like that because I feel that the PSS in this country doesnt push children enough in the areas that Chandler Woods does, that is vital for adult success. Chandler Woods is the only school in this area I will put my children in. I was a homeschooling mom before this school year. I am very impressed with this school.
I'm not a parent...I was, however, a student at Chandler Woods. I attended CWCA from 6th to 8th grade, and I am now a tenth grader. I would have to say that CW was the most amazing experience of my life. The teacher are so great at what they do, and you learn so much, not just academically but about the world, which can be a scary thing. As a student I played volleyball, and since I have left the extracurricular availability has skyrocketed. Obviously there are so many things that could not have happened without the parents. There are so many volunteer parents that help out as coaches, lunch aids, classrooom helpers and so much more! I most definately reccomend CWCA to you all!
I remved my child from this school because of the ridculous dress code and standards. I would never send my child back because of the teachers stubborness and egos. THat is why i transfered my child to North Rockford Middle and she is thriving there.
This is a wonderful school. There are very high morals taught to the children, and parent involvment it high. Parents have a voice at this school, and are valued as a huge part of the education process for children. Class size is 24 max, including the middle school. Our children are thriving there! The staff is excellent!
