While the rigor is not for every student, for most students, the school is an AMAZING experience that prepares them well for college and life. It is an extraordinary public high school -- from the culture to the academic program. Anybody with children in the area with motivated children would want to consider this opportunity.

I begin to doubt that a lot of comments are written on the same dates, meaning people with same minds collaborated to write something only good for the school. Maybe it is wirtten by the school to promote themselves???? I'm very suspicious of the all the 4-5 stars on the same dates. Is the school honest???? I will have to give it a second thought.

RE:White Lake Campus. Before deciding to send your student here, take a close look at the different campuses and separate their statistics and teacher/student retention rates, if you can. The school does a presentation attempting to lump the Bloomfield Hills campus with the others in order to improve their statistics. Know that you will not be getting the same education, reputation, and treatment on each campus. The White Lake campus practically begged us to register.Look carefully at the difference in classes and cirriculum available at each. Consider the difficulty in transferring the credits to another hs if you find that the pressure and priorities here do not match your student. They will tell you students may take classes at the BH campus, but the odds of this working with your student's schedule are poor. Also, ask why other school districts have recently withdrawn from this collective. Is some of the pressure on students here created or necessary? Is well-roundedness encouraged? The upside, of course, is that your student will be surrounded by self-motivated individuals with high goals and have constant homework. This may result in good college prep or clinical depression.

this is an amazing school. I first came here and expected a bunch of nerds, but i found none. Fine, there were a couple, but still the school is filled with talent in both academics and extra-curricular activities. Going to this school requires a lot of hard work and dedication. There is A LOT of homework. Many talented people. there is no lonely kid or someone who everyone hates. No fights. The school is very peaceful and the teachers and great. There are some teachers who are not good but over all there are more good teachers than bad teachers. The food is okay. Over all this school is the best place i have ever gone to.

As an alumna of the IA, I know that the IA made a huge impact on my life and really led me to where I am today. There is not a single person in my graduating class who would disagree. At the IA, students who want to learn are surrounded by peers who want the same, and teachers who want to inspire their students. There is a lot of work involved - probably why the IA sometimes gets poor reviews by frustrated students who need an outlet for their stress - but it's definitely worth it. While the IA helps students go on to terrific universities and careers, it also creates a strong community. I graduated five years ago and still communicate with my friends, and even classmates I didn't know too well during my time at IA. The community is still very strong, and we all support each other in our current projects and endeavors years after we have graduated.

In this opinion of this former student (and his roommate, who also attended the IA) while IA can send your child to a good school, it also provides a terrible environment for growing as a person. Simply put, the administration couldn't care less about the student body. They have no issues with harming the educational life of their students in order to maintain the prestige of the school. Also, in my experience their policies and mismanagement tended to drive out the higher quality teachers as well. So while the school puts up fantastic statistics (as evidenced by this site), in good conscious I can't recommend attending it for the full for years, if only as a matter of the students mental well-being.

This school has a good base but at its west campus(Where I Attend) I find some deficiency in the teaching and most of the students have a horrible attitude towards this school. Only the people who like it write these reviews. Its good but i just dropped out and started college. Did not like it that much.

The International has definitely been a great influence in my life. Not only is the education amazing, but the students base is more driven than I have ever seen before. Each on of my classmates go to the IA in pursuit of attaining one of the nation's best education, and they do so knowing the fact that hard work is needed on a daily basis. My school could not be any better than it already is.

The classes are challenging, and there is a huge variety of clubs, enrichments and after-school activities that range from community service clubs to Japanese club to Art Club and Anime Club. The school provides a way for students not only to excel, but also to 'go beyond'.

We have caring, educated, willing, committed, and extraordinary teachers that are just the best! We are the best and first IB school in Michigan and there are three campuses. My son graduated from this school in 2008. He is starting his freshman year at MSU. He learned a lot, and was surrounded by good smart kids. The school is very difficult, with lots of homework. He was able to maintain a B- average here. I'm sure his average would be higher at any other public school. That was the only problem with the school I can see, because the colleges do not seem to take the difficulty factor into consideration when rating the student for admittance. A 30 score on the college test with a B- average was not good enough for U of M.

I am the supervising graduate assistant at the school's main campus and I find that the students (and teachers) do something everyday to make me proud to be employed there. Not only are the majority of the students focused and motivated to succeed, but the teachers and administration are genuinely invested in the well-being of every single student attending. The school provides a truly international milieu and it is clear that the kids, and staff, greatly benefit from it. Though I thought myself uninterested in working with high school aged students and am currently attending university to be a college professor, I have come to know and love the students and thereby pronounce it the best high school on earth. To be able to attend IA is a true gift, and to work there has been a constant source of inspiration.

The success stemming from this school is possible because of the close collaboration among students, teachers, and administration. Students cannot succeed without guidance and proper direction, and this is exactly what students are recieving (in abundance) at IA.

I am a current senior and I can honestly say that my experience at the IA has been very rewarding. I have never met more diverse group of students who all care about each other and helping each other out. True, the academics at this school are *not* easy, but it is very helpful in preparing for college. The staf is generally amazing as teachers really care about teaching since most students really care about learning.

The International Academy is nothing short of awesome. As a current Junior, I feel that most (if not all) of my classmates and school mates will agree that the International Academy provides a unique and stimulating learning experience. The rigors of the IB program are definitely worth while and the teachers at the IA teach their students how to learn. I have never had a problem going to my teachers for help or advice and these teachers, although some may be young, are more than qualified to teach the IB curriculum. This school is amazing and is wonderful for a driven and motivated student to attend.

It is the students who make this school successful. Every student attending wants to be here and meet the demands of the IB curriculum. The administration is weak and many of the teachers are unremarkable. Quite a few of the teachers are young and inexperienced, and the lack of experience with high school students has caused problems. At times teachers over-react to small issues, and this results in an atmosphere of distrust between the students and teachers. The administration chooses not to address such issues instead of working to build a more positive atmosphere. However, for students who are self-motivated and hard working, then this school might be a good choice.

What can I say about this school...it's nothing but superb. I attened 4 years of high school at the IA and graduated a little while back. The school truely gave me the tools to succeed in college. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering at a very well respected engineering school. I went into college with 30 credits from taking History, English/Literature, Chemistry, and Physics all a the Higher Level option. Not only did the IB allow me to get a huge head start, 30 credits, but it taught me how to learn! In my lab classes I remember people struggling with how to write technical reports and labs. No problem for me, I had done so many of these at the IA between lab write-ups, and research papers for Internal and External Asessments. The culture at the IA is very positive. The teachers there are exceptional. They don't just teach you,

This school is truly the best high school in america. My son graduated this year and I was actually sorry to see his high school experience end. The teachers and staff are very caring and concerned. They treat the students like they are people- they don't talk down to them like many adults do. Classes offered at IA were all advanced placement classes. My son never struggled with the work load. Teachers were always available if he needed extra help. I never worried about my son's safety at IA. The environment at IA is very condusive to learning. My advice to other parents considering IA is if your child is very bright and self motivated this school would be perfect. College will be a breeze for my son- IA gave him such a through and complete education. I highly recommend this school.

The quality is unsurpassed. There are no sports programs at this school. Students fill in their sports requirements outside the school, or at one of the other Bloomfield Hills high schools. This is a very serious school and by the junior year the kids are really working hard. In addition to a high school diploma, most students are also concurrently working towards an IB. The culture appears to have less drugs, less sex, less drinking than other schools. As a whole, the kids seem to see a larger picture than other high school students. Some of them may drive mazda miata's and thunderbirds, but overall there is less emphasis on material things. There is more going on than meets the eye at this school...and most of it is good.
