Teacher effectiveness: Very effective
June 08, 2015
I love that many of the teachers are younger in their tenure so they are very enthusiastic as well as current on the latest effective teaching styles.

Amount of homework: Just right
June 08, 2015
The only homework that makes it home is work not finished during the allotted class time. This instantly lets the parent know that their child may need some additional help in an area if they consistently can't complete a lesson in class. Special projects are the exception.

Develops grit: Strongly agree

The students are encouraged in positive ways to strive for their best and you see the results of that work when they challenge themselves to achieve the next milestone.

Develops respect: Strongly agree
June 08, 2015
Every effort is taught and made to expect age appropriate behavior. As they grow their level of understanding and responsibility grow so that each student is proud of who they are.

Time and time again you see children reaching out to help and make friends. That is the norm at Miami unlike some communities where the clicks are already being established.

Develops honesty: Strongly agree

I have seen the attention that goes into children that are above average, at level, at risk and special needs. They do an amazing job. The only time you see any issues is when there is a non involved parent who expects the school to do all of the work, but even then they go above and beyond.

We have been going to Miami and made it our school of choice in the district. Get involved and watch your child flourish. The staff, teachers and students are all top notch. Looking forward to our last child finishing out their elementary years at Miami.

I love my child's teacher. She is great about addressing concerns and communicates with me often. I feel that most of the teachers are very caring. The principal is very nice, however, having a child with special needs has become quite challenging at this school. They have had quite a few changes in the position of social worker over the last two years and things were communicated at all between the replacements. The lady that is there now is quite opinionated and not very helpful.

Anyone who has a child that needs special help in certain areas should consider this school their first choice. I speak from experience on behalf of my daughter.

My child is a Miami Elementary student . She has gone to this school since preschool and she is in the 3 rd grade now. I love this school and all the teachers are great also. Miami elementary does so much for the kids, and parents to help with the childrens education durning the school year.

My grandson has flourished at this school. His teachers have been given him good instruction and have taught him to be an independent learner. They have been caring and good role models.

I see a parent doesn't like the homework-hotline. The students are held responsible for the link between the teacher/parent' I have a student in the 5th grade. The student also use daiky agendas. Your kid can t fill that out? If they're in 5th grade they need to deal with it. I like making my son responsible for what he need to do. I don t enable him, and I don t want the teacher enabling him. I think if I was seen by a Dr. when I was a kid they would say I had ADD too. I learned to deal with it. Get your kids off the couch, out from in front of the computer and have them take responsibility. 6th grade is coming soon and they need to get with the program. That s just the beginning, life on their own is right around the corner.

What can I say, it's a school. Not impressed at all. No parent / teacher communication. Most of the teacher's don't use email as communication, no classroom letters or notes to parents about what is going on in class. All there is for real communication is 'call the homework hotline'. The studenst are held responsible for the link between the teacher / parent which is great but when you have a child that is ADHD, that doesn't work out so well. Not much help for special students. I wouldn't recommend this school at all.

My daughter transferred from another chippewa valley school, to Miami. And since our last expereince, I can honestly say my daughter loves the school. She is in the fourth grade. And her class size is 27. I consider that better than the 34 kids in the other school. She likes her new teacher, and enjoys being in school. Yes, there is a lot of parent involvement. The PTO is very active, and I think that is great. I can tell the difference this school has made in just the month we have been there. And I would recommend this school to others.

My daughter goes to this school, and I think it's wonderful. Miami does have very full classes, but the teachers do get a lot of help. They have student teachers, co-op students, par-professionals and a great principal who is always willing to help out any student at any time. The have excellent MEAP scores and strive every year to improve where it is needed most. They also have an excellent PTO that is always trying to keep the kids busy with fun activities throughout the year.

I student taught at Miami and was exceedingly happy with the leadership and innovated practices I witnessed during my stay there. I would have no qualms about sending my own children to Miami.

My grandson is doing well in this school after coming from Warren. It took him a month or so to settle in. The large class size leaves much to be desired, his teacher really has her hands full, but things seem to be working out okay.

I am very dissapointed in this school. My sons teacher does not know what she's doing, the class sizes are much too large, and the fundraisers! Theres like 6 fundraisers going on each month, its ridiculous. The principal should spend less time trying to rake in money and more time focusing on the needs of the students. I am currently searching for another school for my child.

I think the classrooms are overfilled and the students do not get the maximum benefit of education, as there is not enough one-on-one time with the teachers. The teachers are overworked and stressed and it shows.

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
