This was my sons first year in the L'anse Creuse District. I can't say enough good things about MS-East. My son also is mainstreamed Special Education and his reading level alone has gone up almost 2 grade levels. The parent portal is great. I can keep up with his assignments and make sure he's turning everything in. I'm extremely happy that we moved here.

I really do not have any complaints about this school. My daughter was a late arrival, just before the school year. They got her the classes she wanted, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I agree with a previous statement about the kids not being respectful but we brought it up to a teacher and she did not hesitate to intervene and still protect my daughter so the other kid wouldn't know it was her. The parent portal is terrific for keeping up on the kids grades and the kids have an agenda filled out each monday with their work for the week on it. All teachers we have dealt with have been very helpful in anything I've asked about or requested. I haven't had to deal with the principal but I shouldn't have to if the school is running according to how it should. I've been very happy with the whole L'anse Cruese school district.

I do not like this school. There is not enough support from the teaching staff for the struggling students. My son has been struggling tremendously not turning in assingments, and I never received a phone call or an email from any of his teachers. I asked if they could email me weekly progress reports so that I could monitor his grades, and they said the computer would not allow them to email me progress reports. I am an involved parent, I volunteer and I am at the school all the time none of his teachers show any concern about his success. I believe all students are not treated equally, especially when it comes to extra curriculum activites and discipline. None of my children will be returning to the Lanse Creuse school district.

I do not like the school at all. We moved to the area from a Walled Lake School District and this school is horrible compared to our previous school district. My child suffered a horrific incident involving one the kids at this school and the school did nothing to ensure my child's safety. I immediately pulled my child out. This school is horrible, the students (most of them) are not respectable and I regret moving to the area. I would not recommend this school at all!

Conferences are way too short. Something needs to be done... Last year I only got 5 min with 4 teachers at once! While at the conference, my daughter's English teacher didn't bother to mention that my daughter was failing! So much for an informational conference! Most teachers (not all) also don't bother to inform you when your child is not turning in work until they are failing and it's too late to do anything about it. Other than that, I like the school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
