Lacure has been a GREAT school! I have 2 sons attending Lacure, one in 4th grada and one in kindergarten. My oldest son has been attending since kindergarten. The school may not be brand new looking, but it has ALWAYS been clean and safe. My son was so upset when clio area schools quit doing shuttle, he did not want to change schools. They were able to work with me so that he could stay in Lacure. The boys catch the bus from a "day care" address, which is my sister in laws home, so they could stay in Lacure schools and not have to transfer to Edgerton (which I hear is also a wonderful school). My son recieves some special education help from Mrs. "W", who is WONDERFUL. My son has always had caring, compassionate, and knowledgable teachers, teachers who seem to love their job and were able to reach my son because of it. He has made tremendous gains since kindergarten, and I'm not sure he would have done as well in another school or if he had to change schools when shuttle was discontinued.

Lacure is not the newest or nicest looking elementary school in Clio but I can not imagine having a better experience with my children's elementary education. The principal has a genuine care & concern for the students; he is down to earth and easy to talk to. My oldest went to Lacure K-4 and my youngest is in 1st grade currently; we have yet to have a teacher for either of them that we disliked in any way. They have all been accessible, understanding and concerned. The boosters are active and conduct several fun activities for the children every year (santa's work shop, winter carnival, fun & field day). Parental involvement is high; most of the time when I attend a class party or field trip, around 50% (or more) of the children have a parent/guardian with them. Throughout my childrens' time at Lacure I have helped out in the classrooms, attended class parties and just been at the school frequently; I have yet to see or hear anything that caused me concern for my childrens' wellfare, education or saftey. Lacure has a very small town, family oriented atmosphere.

The principal was rude, the teachers seemed to be just there because it was a job, and my children had head lice 3 times in the first and only year they attended that school. It was always dirty looking in the classrooms. I never felt safe there. I pulled my children out after the first year there. NEVER would I recommend this school

Lacure has been an excellent school for my children. One of my children has moved on to Middle school and was well-prepared. My other child is still enjoying her school years at Lacure. Every teacher they have had has been incredible and we feel fornunate they have fostered such a love of learning in our children.

My just finished kg here and I was impressed with the teachers and other staff members in the building and my son loved to come to school every day. I hope it continues.

My child had a wonderful experience at Lacure. The staff, teachers, and principal all work very hard for the students. The grounds have been improved and I see there is new playground equipment. Just as promised by the Boosters of Lacure. Lacure is the best!

My son had a wonderful kindergarten year at Lacure! Everyone was welcoming and friendly, he made lots of new friends; I am very satisfied with what he has learned and how far he has progressed since the start of the school year.

Community ratings and reviews do not represent the views of GreatSchools nor does GreatSchools check their accuracy or verify the reviewers' identities. Use your discretion when evaluating these reviews.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

The test results by subgroup show how the designated group of students is performing in comparison to the general population.

About the tests

In 2013-2014 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. Currently, GreatSchools' ratings reflect 2013 MEAP results; ratings will be updated after 2014 Michigan Merit Examination (MME) results are released. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. In addition, they have recalculated past years' results using these new standards for proficiency, making the above year-over-year results comparable.

What is the GreatSchools Rating?

The GreatSchools rating is a simple tool for parents to compare schools based on test scores, student academic growth, and college readiness. It compares schools across the state, where the highest rated schools in the state are designated as “Above Average” and the lowest “Below Average.” It is designed to be a starting point to help parents make baseline comparisons. We always advise parents to visit the school and consider other information on school performance and programs, as well as consider their child's and family's needs as part of the school selection process.
