Coleman is very community-minded and prioritizes the school. The administration has recently gone through some staff changes, but seems to have kept the focus on student success. The teaching staff overall maintains an upbeat, cheerleader-type attitude. College-bound graduates I have watched are largely prepared for the next phase of their education. Downfalls are the lack of involved parents, the 60% poverty-level, and few opportunities for advanced students to excell.
This school is great if you chose to be involved in your child's education. You have to advocate for them or they will simply be pushed along through the school year. It may be that way in most schools, I cannot say. All I can be sure of is this. Coleman has a lot to offer, if you have someone making sure you get it. It seems that the more the parents invests the more the teachers put into that child's education. It makes sense to me, but where does that leave the kid that doesn't have involved parents? It is heart breaking to see so much potential fade away without opportunity. The principal at the Jr. Sr. High has always been very interested in her students. As a parent she is the ideal principal!! Stay involved & your kids will do great!
Very good small school. Excellent programs for kids and families to participate in. Band, art, many travel opportunities, museum trips, strong athletic programs, with many options for the students to participate in.
Coleman high school has got to be the worst schools ever. The teachers are unprofessional. The staff doesnt put in that extra mile for the kids, they dont seem like they care!
If you are simply an average student with good self-directed learning skills you will do great. If your family is low income or your intellect is extremely high you will be misguided, either by bordom or by uncommitted teachers and guidence couselors. If you send your kids to Coleman Schools decide upfront to be an advocate for their education!
Coleman High School needs lots of work to get in the times of schooling today.
Coleman High School graduates over the lrecent years have had great success in college . Students from Coleman have graduated from almost all public colleges in Michigan. Recently one of Coleman graduates graduated from Brown University while her brother also a graduate of Coleman grasduated from Georgetown. Advantages of attending Coleman if you are willing to study and participate is small school atmosphere , a school where it is possibility to be a big fish, great athletic football baseball spftball and track fields. Good admainistration and good teachers. Coleman is allso relatively safge school to atttend. Coleman does face as many schools do issues wiht drugs however the administration make serious attempts to reduce this problem . Coleman does also face problems caused by the Michigan economy and is facing an incrrease in number of students that face economic problems
I love going to Coleman High School. My yearbook class is amazing and the teacher is my favorite. Sure we aren't the biggest school but many of our graduates have gone on to do many great things. As far as less camera's and more respect, give me a break. You want kids to do illegal things and get away with you. Thats a great example to be setting. I think the cameras' let students know that they are being watched and will get caught if they do something wrong. And let's face uit, not everyone has the same IQ so not everyone will be with their grade level. C'mon people, lets think about this. Coleman is a great school system, and has a great group of kids.
As a former student of Coleman High, I am proud to have gotten to the level I am. It is not because of the education I received there, but in spite of it. There is little to offer students who have average to above average intellect. The extra curricular activities are not very numerous. The leadership is now outstanding. Overall, if you have the choice, send your child somewhere else.
Coleman is a great school considering the lack of funding.
