My two children have attended COE and have loved every minute! They have excelled at Math, Reading and Science - -their interest was peaked by insightful teachers that cultivate an environment of learning with an emphasis on creativity. I can't say enough great things about COE! Because of the size of the school, every member of COE works diligently to facilitate a culture that is very much like a family. As a parent, you are always welcome and encouraged to participate in your child's education. We have two more children at home and I often bring them to COE - they are always welcomed! COE is a great school! I feel very blessed that we have access to one of the best elementary schools in Michigan!
MY 3 children attended COE until we had to move away. I loved the school and had a wonderful experience during our time. We have attended 2 other public schools and none compare to COE. The dedication and hard work of Mrs. Perrett and Mrs. Yash is absolutely outstanding. We haven't come across two teachers like that since we had to move away... My Kids and I miss COE alot!!
My son attended this school last year. We had problems around his teacher and some of the other teachers, the aftercare program, some of the support staff, the size of the school, pick up/drop off safety and overall morale. I cannot go into detail here, but I just feel strongly enough about this that I wanted to leave a review. I am not the type of person to go and make big decisions that affect everyone if I can just try to 'make things work', but I did end up moving my child to a different school within the district. This says a lot. The school is far too big for us with over 700 students. I know this might be okay for some, but I want my child to be a part of a community. I felt like he was a part of a giant 'system'. Very disappointing
I was very unhappy, dissatified and frustrated about the poor quality of the education, teachers, administrators and support services at Country Oaks and the Huron Valley School District. I pulled my children from the school and the district. My only praise for the school is for Mrs. Senk, a kindergarten teacher. She was great! I will not return my children to the Huron Valley School District based on our experience at Country Oaks Elementary.
As we prepare my child for her second year at Country Oaks, we are looking forward to another wonderful school year. Her former teacher was superb. The academic help she recieved was outstanding. My only concern is the sheer size of the school. With four or more sessions of every grade level, I thought my child might be lost in the crowd. Numbers are overwhelming but I am amazed at how much attention each individual child gets. I have witnessed the concern and care that is taken to create a happy, smoothly operating and safe environment. I also know that I do not know everything that goes on 'behind the scenes'. Educators are bound by confidentiality issues. But given the opportunity to join other schools via open enrollment and Year Round schools, COE families choose to remain there. Something very good is happening there.
There seems to be 2 opposite opinions about this school. In my experience, the teachers are dedicated and the children love going to school. Most teachers work hard to encourage all children to progress.
I have had 4 children attend Country Oaks. I would rate it a great school until this year. (2005) Once the new principal started, the whole atmosphere of the school changed for the worse. The principal is not a good administrator and has a very unapproachable personality.
I think this is the BEST school around - the teachers are very dedicated and the parents are very invloved with the school and helping with the teachers. I have never experieced or heard of any bullying problems
Country Oaks probably has the best teachers in the district. However, their ability to handle students who are bullied or students who work above the curriculum is limited. I think the focus is on teaching the bullied how to handle it rather than discipling the bully. This has been a very serious concern of ours and in the past five years we have seen little or no resolution in this area.
The main problem I have had with this school has been the lack of a '0 tolerance policy' regarding discipline and bullying of the students. Way too much fear of parental backlash and law suits have been the only explanation I can come up with as to why the bullying is allowed to go on in the school with little or no consequences to that student. My son has been continually bullied at this school and by the same kids who are consistently in trouble in the office. He has also been threatened with a BB gun and a knife (verbally) and has been physically violated by these same boys. I have had a hard time understanding where the 0 tolerance comes in to play here. Maybe the schools feel that their hands are tied in these cases with these 'repeat offenders' but my son has paid the price for their lack of commitment in taking care of this very serious issue. I am extremely disappointed in how this has been handled for the past 5 years and now these same kids are advancing to middle school where they will just learn to perfect their bullying unless something is done to stop them.
