This School is a fine part of the community!

I moved to Constantine from a large urban school district where public schools were always attacked for poor performance. We sent our daughter to an urban public school and she now attends Constantine. We have been disappointed. She has not found the coursework at Constantine anywhere near as challenging and she reports that class time is often wasted by teachers. The school also needs to do a lot more to encouraged students to attend college. Our daughter has been told that the college placement counselor will not meet with students until their senior year - too late to start thinking about college. We have done all the search work on our own. Finally, the 'grade bump' system that inflates students' grades for good attendance, penalizes students like my daughter who has health needs that require her to miss school on occasion.

I believe teachers need to be accountable just like the students. Constantine needs better leadership.

We moved from a much larger city where private schools were a must. Constantine schools and those teaching our children are the best. Great education and social environment. Great families, educators and sports. New facilities will only enhance their performance.

I'm the parent of a 'school of choice' student at Constantine and very happy with my 'choice.' My daughter's academic and social performance has blossomed at this school.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MME test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
