My daughter loves Howe Montessori The teachers are great and the Principal is very involved:)
Not a lot of people are not aware of this awesome school. It is like a hidden gem!!! Providing the best Education to our child is our first priority as a parent. The Montessori is a great fit for our daughter since her academic level is above her grade level. The Principle Dr. J. Tynan shows great leadership. Encourages educational growth and achieves short as well as long term goals. Teachers are outstanding at this school. After interviewing Principles this school was an easy choice Howe Montessori!!!
My child attended Howe beginning as a preschool and going through 5th grade. We found this to be a great school for us. Children are challenged and material is presented in many different ways to accomodate differing learning styles. Children gain confidence through many presentation assignments. When we left 2 years ago there was a huge amount of parent involvement, mom's, dads, and even grandparents. My child and the 10 or so Howe students who all go to the same Middle School are all on the high honor role every marking period. Every year parents have to fight to keep this wonderful little school open. The parents are creative and resourceful because of the value they place outcomes that this school is able to produce.
The concept of this school is great. However, intergrading Montessori teaching methods within a public school, is challenging, and requires a level of organization that is not present here. Leadership is lacking, and you are left feeling that the whole program is quite loosey-goosey. Parental involvement is primarily female. There seems to be unlimited access to classrooms, and parents are allowed to stay in their own childrens' classroom for no apparent reason. The teaching staff appears to be competent and dedicated. For the most part, my child was happy here, and I am comfortable with his academic progress. As for me, the entire experience left me somewhat disturbed.
The quality of the academic programs in the Montessori program is high, as is the level of parent involvement. Because of the nature of the Montessori school, some extracurriculars may be limited as compared to other elementary schools, but the commitment of the teachers and additional parent involvement, in addition to the excellent curriculum more than make up for any limitations. Also, the teachers (especially, but not only, Ms. Nellie) do an excellent job of planning field trips and additional activities.
This school is so wonderful. It has wonderful children and teachers that care. There is special education kids that your kids can interact with. there are extracurricular activities such as Chess, STAND, Girl Scouts, etc. The children have a wonderful playground, field, and track. There is phsical education, art, music, and band. There is also ther Safety Patrol that helps keep kids safe. We are Montessori so we do hands-on activities. Parents have the option of helping with a variety of things like concerts and dinners. When looking for a school this is a great school.
