After great consideration, I would have to give this institution's performance an A for its excellence day in and day out on behalf of each and every student in attendance. My career dictates a bevy of travel, and unfortunately, this meant more than one school for my children. I was ecstatic to see that the level of administrative leadership and teacher dedication have surpassed the high level I personally experienced while in attendance. I believe congratulations are most certainly in order. The type of education given to students here is first class, despite the shoestring budget the district continually faces.

Standardized test scores are the real answer to see how good a school is, since it shows what kids have learned compared to other schools. People can cry about other issues but if DHS test scores are only average to below that's how a school should be ranked. Sports and parent involvement may help a little but teachers and administration is 95% of these scores.

I've been in education for about five years now and from what I've observed at Decatur I would have to say it is a great place for many students to encounter diversity. The students respect the principals, in which they are seen in hallways almost every hour. The academics are well rounded in which students always are expected to use technology in every class. The technology in the district seems to be up to date. Plus, they offer quite a variety of competitive sports, although many students seemed a bit disappointed they do not offer soccer. I would strongly recommend this school to any parent.

Well what can i say about DHS? A lot of people mock the education the students get, but in my opinion it's not entirly the fault of the teachers. DHS has great academic programs such as advanced math and science classes. I think the reason that DHS get such as bad raport is because of the students. From what i can remember from when i was in school (class of 03) a lot of the students just didn't care about being in class and didn't take advantage of all the advanced placement classes. As far as the music and art departments go they are wonderfully supported by the community and the school. Sports by far are the best supported activities. We excell at baseball, football, and softball. The parent envolvement could be more, but again it's not the schools fault. Having been born and raised in Decatur I would reccomend DHS.
