Educational philosophy and approach to learning The Academy of the Americas Dual-Language Immersion program is a 90/10 model. This means that the target language in the lower grades is Spanish. As the student progresses through the grades, English instruction is increased until fifth grade where students are instructed 50% in Spanish and 50% in English. The goal is for students to progress through the program performing at grade-level in both Spanish and English thus becoming functionally bi-lingual and bi-literate individuals.
