I am a parent of a 1st & 5th grader at Gompers Elementary School, Gompers is a awesome school to be at, because the Principal, Teachers and the LSCO Parent Group is completed dedicated to making Gompers one of the Best Schools in Michigan. The academic learning enviroment is awesome. I was the LSCO Parent President at Gompers from 2007 thur 2009. And I would stay that the Principal and the Teachers and the L.S.C.O. Parent Group at Gompers are very closely knitted as a family. They work together like Ants, if I can used that as and example. I have seen with my own Eyes, Gompers grow Internally as a School. Listen to this, when you have the Principal, Teachers, Parents, Community Leaders and the Business Community coming together AS ONE, for Schools, Then that School cannot do nothing but be One of Best Schools In Michigan, Because the FOUNDATION has been laid right for that School. I am Thankful to God for All the people who are Laboring Hard to make Gompers Elementary School one of the Great Schools In Michigan. All we have to do, is Continue to Work as a Team, and be One in Spirit & Truth with One Another. From Mr. Harris

This is one of the best schools in Detroit. When they say they teach the whole child you can rely on that! They sincerely care about the sucess of the children and it shows. The parents, staff and especially the principle are always there when you need them. WONDERFUL experience-I would tell anyone and everyone to chose this school. My child graduated this year from fifth grade and I was more than satisfied I was impressed. I feel she is prepared to succeed wherever she goes from here because the foundation has been set properly.I would give more stars if I could.

My child attended Gompers from Kindgergarten to 5th grade. Excellent school. Excellent staff. I was sad to see Mrs. Lewis leave however the new principal took to the task and kept the school running smoothly.

Gompers is an excellent school. My son attended Kindergarten with Mrs. LeHoy. She is a Wonderful teacher. She has classroom control and she keeps the kids attention when teaching. The school is safe and structured. I have since moved to another city but my son would of continued here but for that. If your child is starting in Kindergarten, request Mrs. LeHoy!!!

I currently have two children who attends Gompers and I will say that I absolutely love the old school teaching methods that this school enstill in these children. My children came from a montessori setting and one has had a tough time adjusting to a more structures environment. These teachers are willing to go the extra mile for these kids. They are not afraid to keep the kids in line in a postive way. You can tell that these teachers love what they do and take pride in promoting learning. I have to be prejudice and say that Mr. Cohen, Mrs. Shehan, Mr. Ingram and Mrs. O...is the bomb. They have made me trust teachers again. The school have specialized teachers (and male teachers) and they know their stuff. The principal is very attentive to situations and makes you feel comfortable and at ease when speaking with her. GO GOMPERS!!!

Gompers has been a great school for my two children, K and 1st grade. The teachers appear to take an interest in the children welfare and their learning abilities. The teachers recommend open communication which is a benefit. I highly recommend Gompers.

Gompers is a great school the care and discipline that they offer along with a variety of after school programs keeps your child mind constantly busy. Ms Lewis is firm but she cares about the kids thanks for all you do faculty and staff.

I have been so priviledged to see the work that the teachers and Mrs. Lewis put into this school. The teachers are dedicated and it shows because the MEAP scores are excellent as well as the school scores. Leadership within the school helps to make everyone want to take pride and do their best. Whether it be students, teachers, lunchroom, custodial, office personnel or parent volunteers everyone has the vision of Gompers. I am so proud to see the assembly that takes place each morning where the children are challenged to be the best they can be for the day. It is during this period of time that recognition is given, they sing their school song and then are given an encouraging word to depart with. I am so proud to be a part of this school.

This is a great school and should be a school of choice. The teachers and staff are just wonderful with the children. A big shout out to the principal 4 holding it together. Way to go Ms. Lewis and staff. --A. Rooker

This is a great school, all the teachers know each child by first name, and extra care is given to each child - teachers really care here! Gompers is a blue ribbon and Golden Apple school - most of the kids are above average in their reading and math skills!

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
