I'm the mother of an 3rd grade student enrolled in the ASD program. Webster is key to the growth of my child. He is non-verbal and Autistic. I can't begin to imagine him not attending Webster. Being a product of DPS myself I've seen alot. Never have I seen a school more caring. All of the staff and stundents embrace my son. He has even begun to mainstream. Please don't take this school away from our children.

Wow,what a great school. Im a proud mother of two boys who attend Webster elementary in Southwest Detroit.I myself attended this school back in 1987.My children are learning so well,i have my 7yr old who came out of kindergarten reading at 2nd grade level,to me I believe thats spectacular! My 5yr old son is in kindergarten now and is reading at almost second grade. They both had the same teacher. Im so upset to hear that our school is on the list to close. I feel like my children are being tossed out! The staff is great, ithe building is well kept up and my kids love it here. I dont know what I would of done without them. To close it would be so horrible.......... Someones got to do something.

My all of children have attened webster but iw as not happy with the school back in the early 90's until I recently placed my 6 year old back at webster after leaveing maybury elementry and I have found that the new principal here Mr. Cruz is a great man he runs a tight ship but is also a very caring and person. I can truly say that he cares for all his children and make sure that they all getting the best eduction but also that our children recive fair deciplined, which in my option makes for a great principle, along with all of his staff and Great Teachers ,They strive to give our children the best and see that I children also do their best I hope you think about place your child here where I have found that this is a Great among the Rest of our Schools.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
