I recommend and appreciate Renaissance High School. RHS is challenging and the teachers want the students to excel. There are many and varied extracurricular activities. RHS prepared my oldest son well. He graduated last year with a full scholarship to FSU and he is on the Dean's List. My youngest son is a sophomore at RHS and is also being well prepared. Of course there are no perfect schools, however, RHS is No. 1 in the DPS.
Renaissance challenges you and students have to be willing to take the challenge! The teachers prepare the students for college. My daughter is at GVSU and did very well in her science classes. She believes it is becasue of the good foundation received at Renaissance.
Renaissance is an OK school. I am currently a sophomore there and I can honestly say that I am getting the best education in DPS. However, the 'best in DPS' still isn't going to cut it for me, and for those students who really want to excel in academics and in life! There are some teachers that truly are good teachers. Then there are teachers who are there just to entertain the class. Before entering high school, I was ecstatic about going to Renaissance. I can honestly say that Renaissance High School has not lived up to my expectations. It's really sad that they got a 10 star rating! You just have to be a student at Renaissance to truly understand the falsity of 'the Renaissance image'.
Peoduces great student scores, community minded students, with a great college future.
Great school to push students that have the I.Q. to succeed. The programs and structure is superb and allows the students to fully grow, learn and stay focus for college goal. They (princ) are not intouch with the emotional end and must remember these children are humans.
I would reccomend and promote this school as the best in DPS. It is strict, but everyone who graduates, goes to some type of college or university. By me entering into my sophmore year, I already know a list of collleges, and admission information that I'll check out be for my senior year. This school is very highly academically focus, but we still have fun.
Excellent High School to send children; especially kids who want to achieve successfully. Our family strongly supports the school programs offered.
Renaissance does a wonderful job with their students.!!! It promotes academics!! Second only to The University OF Detroit Jesuit High School, it is in a league of its own!!
i currently attend this magnet highschool, and from experience i have to say it is truly an excelled, challenging skill that strives to be at least 2 steps above rest, above the average, and i highly recommend this school to only those who truly want to thrive in school, and attend great colleges.
My daughter currently attends Renaissance High School and I am pleased to say that she is challenged daily and is receiving a top notch education. I am confident that she will be well prepared for college her senior year. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AT RENAISSANCE.
Renaissance High School is an extremely excellent school. I had a son who graudated with honors from Renaissance last year - 2007 and I'm proud to say that my younger son has been expected to attend Renaissance this fall. The teachers/counselors help our students prepare for college and I appreciate that. The principal is a principla who cares for the students and the school as a whole and our school needs a principal and teachers who cares! Thank God for Renaissance High School. - Thank you and May God Bless You! - K. Moore
Renaissance is a good school for those who want to take seven classes and for those who want to go to college. The teachers are drawn from the same pool of good teachers that we have in Detroit. Most schools would succeed if they are able to drop students below a 2.0 gpa the way Renaissance and Cass does. Work must be done at an earlier level; vote and revive Headstart Programs immediately!
My daughter attended Renaissance all four years of high school. She received an outstanding education. The curriculum is intense and very demanding, however the teachers do an excellent job of helping students when needed and the students help each other as well. My daughters education can be compared with some of the finest private school educations across this nation. This is why she has applied to some of the Ivy League schools, where she will be accepted and will continue to have success. Thank you Renaissance high school staff and administration. A Proud Parent, Mary E. Jenkins-Williams
Renaissance is an outstanding academic institution. Most of the teachers challenge studnets to achieve. As with any institution, you have to monitor what goes on.
As a graduate who now attends one of the best Universities in the Country I can honestly say that this school prepared me very well for college competition. Also in a previous rating someone stated that the school does not have a great visual arts program nor does it cater to those who need special attention. However this is not the aims of the school the school is aimed at college preparation, As well as it is not meant for those who have special needs it is for those who are academically superior.
I am currently a sophomore at Renaissance High and from experience, I know that Renaissance is a wonderful school to attend. I am happy to say, 'It's great to be a Phoenix'. The teachers, especially the older ones who are well known by Renaissance Alumni, prepare us for college tremendously. I have noticed that my friends that attend other high schools in the neighborhood have the same textbooks and receive the same work, but they are not necessarily receiving the same attention or lessons that we receive from Renaissance High. The school is very challenging, competitive and at the same time we have very good sports teams. I concur that it may appear that Renaissance students appear to act better than other students, but we don't think we're superior to anyone, we just have a certain demeanor that you develop when you know you're receiving a wonderful education.
I am the parent of an alumni. This school has prepared my daughter well for a very successful life. The quality of the programs, the Musical department is extraordinary. The Science Department,The Sports were all exceptional programs. The teachers ...very involved in helping the children achieve high goals. I as a parent loved my childs experience. Her self-esteem is very high. Thanks to the expectations of the teachers of Renaissance High School. Thank you again. A Proud Parent
Renaissance is one the best school you can attend for free. My child graduated from Renaissance and she is on her way to success. She says that Renaissance prepared her for college.
Students like to complain, and so naturally any student review will lament about all the negatives and ignore the positives that make Renaissance a great school. I am a junior ('08!') and, contrary to previous reviews, I find Renaissance very challenging. I have AP classes, honors classes, and between that and various after school activities I find myself very busy. School is what you make it. If you come in and skate through 4 years doing the minimum, not only will it not challenge you, but you won't enjoy it. If you, like many driven Renaissance students do, take AP and honors courses and get involved with other activities you will enjoy school much more. This is far and away the best DPS high school, and you are getting a private school education in a public school, for the public school price (0).
I'm a Junior, and for the record sure RHS is the best high school in Michigan. Yeah we have the highest meap scores in the city. And yeah we have a brand new building. However, that takes away from reality the most of the students (human acting students) are unhappy with the school. Our school has no real after school or even in school clubs, beside the foreign language clubs. Everything we do in school in some way is to when an award even our annual yearbook. Which is not really a bad thing but when does the focus shift back to the students? We make the school.
