As an alumnus of Renaissance High- I would recommend this school to any parent who is looking for a challenging and fun environment for their child. Renaissance totally prepared me for college and eventually graduate school. To put it short- when students are surrounded by the brightest and best- they will strive to meet and exceed all expectations.

Renaissance is not a great high scool anymore. I will not perpetuate the myth. If you have an opportunity to choose, choose Cass Tech or maybe even King. The curriculum Ren. adheres to is archaic and there exists great teacher turnover and apathy. Students are not being challenged commensurate with their abilities.

Great school. Good students. Good teachers and a great principal. This is one of the good public schools in America. Last 100% of the students went on to college. That right there shows how excellent this school is.

My daughter is currently attending Renaissance and I have found this school to be an excellent school for those children that can keep up a rigorous schedule. They offer a vast array of extracurricular activities and they really keep the kids involved. Their entire program is geared at college bound students and they have access to programs that most other schools don't even know exist. I like the fact that they stay up on your child's progress so that it will enable them to go to a good college. If your child can qualify for this school I would highly recommend their attendance.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Michigan used the Michigan Merit Examination (MME) to assess students in grade 11 in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The MME is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the state standard.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MME test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
