Marcus Garvey Academy is an excellent school the Principle Mr.Hearns is a excellent principle.. I have a child at Marcus Garvey and since he been attending his reading level has improved.. the staff is excellent and so are the other parents.
I had Three children who attended Garvey Academy. Garvey is truly an example of a school bringing the community together. The Principle is a great leader who along with staff, custodians, engineer, parents, students and the surrounding community all pull together to get students and their families the resources needed to insure students are educated. There is a high male presence in the school which is great for children who don't have it at home. Garvey teaches student self responsibility and to have respect for themselves as well as others. An african centered academy that service students from all diversities and ensures that students are culturely aware. My youngest graduated in 2013 and everything that was instilled in her from Garvey has carried over with her through high school. This is a great school in detroit that has greatly benefited its low income population of students including mine.
Garvey Academy has a wonderful principal and staff who help to develope every student to their highest potential. The LSCO is full of hard working parents who care about the success of all the children at Garvey Academy. The school moved to a new location in the fall of 2009. The new building has many upgrades and additional space that the old building lacked. There will be additional upgrades and improvements made in the summer of 2010 with proposal S funding. I have a second grade son attending this year and he loves it here. My youngest son will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010 and he is looking forward to joining his older brother and becoming a Garvey student.
