Do not send your child to this school! This district has an extremely high turn over rate. From 2008-2011the elementary school had FOUR different principals, 2 of whom had no degree/background in education. The teachers are good for the most part, but they don't last longer than 3-4 years because of the high administrative turn over. Students and teachers are at the bottom of the priority list, personal and monetary gain are at the top. This school needs to close and the quality teachers need to find an employer who is worthy of their hire.
I fill that this is a great school the staff really show interest in the kids education they really get involved. The only complaint is not enough extra curricular activities .Band ,football, FHA groups etc....
I think Detroit Community Elementary School has made great strides for the 2008-2009 school year. I think the teachers, administration, and support staff have grown over the past year. The school really makes student learning a #1 priority.
This school is a good school the only flaw that I can complain about is not enough extra curricular activities for the children. Me personal I believe that the principal change was a great choice. The school has more discipline instead of the student bullying other students.
