My children have attended this school since it opened and I love the nurturing family environment at this school. The staff and administrators do a good job at teaching the children and holding them accountable for their actions. I would like to see more accelerated courses and higher expectations for the children academically. Most of the children are well behaved and come to school eager to learn--however that's not enough. If our children are going to compete globally, parents need to step up and set higher expectations for our children and demand that they are taught on a world class level. Having a new building with some books should not be enough. Unfortunately, in an urban area such as this, a clean safe building is enough for many parents.

The school has some good things going for it small class size, good math, reading and writing curriculum, and making parents part of thier childs education (as it should be parents). The down side is a very poor science curriculum only 1/2 the year. You think with all the importants of math and science to graduate from highschool it would be different. Another major problem is the highschool choice - you really do not have one UPA highschool has never made AYP so as a parent the best choice is to look for a better alternative. Most teachers at UPA system send thier own kids to other distics Ann arbour, Grosse pointe ect.....

I love UPA. The teacher are very helpful and friendly. I have two chrilden that go to both the elementary and middle school. I like the fact that there's small class size and they take time with their student weather it in school or outside of school. Keep up the good work UPA staff.
