This is in response to the parent who reviewed our programming. I am Pamela Farris, principal of Madison-Carver Academy, and I would like to personally apologize that you found your experience at Madison-Carver unsatisfying. As this is our first year in operation, we have decided to introduce some of our programming (such as extracurricular activities) on a rolling basis as the school year progresses, rather than starting everything at once and possibly overwhelming staff and students. We have implemented our blended learning (on-line and classroom learning) model and are in the process of introducing more extracurricular activities such as chess and service learning opportunities. For a detailed list of what activities the school currently provides as well as those in development, or if you have any further concerns, please feel free to get in touch with me at (313) 486-4626. I am always more than happy to meet with any parent to discuss any issue, and I extend that to the parent that left this feedback. Thank you for sharing your story.
My son started at MCA last year for 1st grade and has returned for 2nd grade. After numerous disappointing on-site visits at other schools, I was FINALLY satisfied MCA! This school is beautiful, clean, and exemplifies a true learning environment. The teachers are EXCELLENT and highly trained and educated. My son's 1st grade teacher was awesome (Mrs. Turner). She always went over and beyond to make sure EACH of her students progressed to their individual learning abilities. The other teachers are also welcoming and often assisted me too. The real shining star of the school is the awesome principal, Mrs Farris. She is truly God sent and one of the best administrators I have ever met. She runs her school with dignity and professionalism. She puts education first and always follows through on her action plans shared with the parents. She is very approachable and the children LOVE her. THANK YOU MCA for creating an environment for my son that puts his needs first and helping him grow academically and personally.
My daughter went to Madison Carver Academy for first grade and I must say, I absolutely love this school. This school has the best first grade teacher ever. The principal is involved and really care about the students, and so does Ms. Turner (1st grade teacher). Very clean, welcoming school that gives a great vibe. I would recommend this school to all the new first graders. My child will continue this school year for 2nd grade and I hope she have as great of a teacher as Ms. Turner. Great school, no bad complaints.
I'm extremely pleased with this school. As a mother you worry about your child's well-being. You want a clean, safe, and healthy environment for your child to attend. This school is just that. My son is in kindergarten and he learns so much everyday. Choosing the right school for him was of utmost importance. I was scared. I wanted to know for sure if I was making the right choice. This school is it. The teachers are highly qualified and capable of providing an education for my child. I'm ready for my daughter to attend! I know I made the right choice. Every day my son is excited to tell me of things he has learned. Some of which I did not learn when I was his age. He even has his sister psyched about going to kindergarten in the fall. I'm proud to say that I will have two children attending this school. I'm a MCA parent and I know that my children will have a bright beginning and future in this school.
I like that my daughter has opportunities to learn another language. I like that her grades have come up. She is a smart young lady but I see a lot of improvements when she started at Madison-Carver than from her old school. I like that there are options and that the teacher's/staff recognize if she is doing something out of character. -- Sheryl Tillmon, a parent
My child attended MCA for only one month because everything that was stated that the school had to offer like Foreign Language (Spanish and Chinese), on-line learning, chess, robotics, martial arts, and etc. was FALSE and even the picture of the school is not true. In my opinion, the school should not have opened until all of the classes, programs, and teachers were in place..that included training. We were sold a bill of goods that MCA could not deliver.
