First I've got to say that East Leroy has been a wonderful experience for my son and daughter. Our son is now in High School, and he sometimes picks up our daughter from 4th grade and always takes a minute to say hi to the teachers he remembers from his elementary days! We are in the classroom, both my husband and I pretty regularly and have just the most positive experiences. Our daughter is very successful at East Leroy, and I think its the quality attention she gets thats a big part of it!
We have two children at East Leroy Elementary, a third grader and one in kindergarten. We were very pleased to see the school go to full day kindergarten this year. So far our oldest is very happy, and doing very well. We have a group of parents that now all know each other, and we all participate which is wonderful. I wish I could give a more balanced review, but to be quite honest we're very happy with the school on the whole. My third grader is making me add that the teachers are great!
I was surprised at my son's change in attitude toward school last year. I guess I expected better scholastic performance after moving from a district with larger classrooms, but he also enjoyed school so much more this year. I can't say enough good things about East Leroy! I also noticed an enormous difference in parent participation it was almost like night and day! I was worried at first that E. Leroy was using a system without the conventional principal role, but administratively everything was very smooth. I would recommend our school to anyone.
My second child is just getting ready for full day kindergarten at East Leroy. His older sister has had nothing but excellent experiences with Athens schools. She's in Junior High now and looking back on her career so far, and comparing it to my expectations I just couldn't be happier. I don't know what most people are looking from a review, but if you the opinion of a parent whos done the entire grade range at East Leroy, I can recommend it completely.
This is a great school! My kids went from a charter school were they were refused the help they needed to this school where the teachers take the time for each student and work with them to improve. And that's what they did! Both of my children are excelling in all subjects and they still find the work challenging and fun!
