I love the latchkey program offered by Woodland. However, the teachers do not seem to spend enough time helping the children understand what they are learning. One thing that is very important in teaching is that a teacher provides HOPE to students and a way to understand, this I do not see happening at Woodland. It seems like the teachers there just want to pass out homework and expect the parents to do all the teaching which would be fine if you're a stay at home mom or dad, but what if you're a single parent who has to work to keep the bills paid and food on the table?? Another important thing, if my child is having any problems in school I think it is very important the parent be informed, so that we can help them improve. No good parent wants their child to be unsuccessful in school...
This school is great! I cant say enough good things about what they have done for my daughter she is a special needs child and I couldnt be more satisfied the way they are handling everything the staff is GREAT, the school is always doing something with the kids! My daughter loves this school Thank you Mrs. Dickens, Mrs. Shrikert, Mrs.Wilson and Mrs.Tami and a special thanks to the lunch mom Dawn! What a great team!!! Mrs. Miller is always present and talking with the children what a great influence!
I love Woodland. Both of my children attended there. The school system will help you with any problems you have. They are there to help the children. The latchkey program is wonderful. I enjoy looking after the children under my care.We try to get them involved in many afer school activities such as crafts, cooking and field trips.I hope to more children pass through Woodland on there way through life. This is my daughters second year at Woodland and I like it even better. Her teacher last year was WONDERFUL as well as her new teacher this year.they do so much for the children as well as the PTO.The Latchkey program is GREAT and I believe Mrs.Wilson should be given an award for all the wonderful things she does with the kids.THANK YOU! Mrs.Wison.....:).Woodland is a school I would definetly recommend to anyone.
My daughter is in first grade at Woodland. I love this school. Both of her teachers have been wonderful. The principal is very visable and very pleasant. The parent participation is lacking but that is not the schools fault. The latchkey program is great and the PTO does an excellent job with what they have to work with. As a parent, you are responsible for your child until they enter the school building - if someone is unsatisfied with the supervision outside of school before school hours they should remain with their kids until they go in.
My children have been attending Woodland since 2005 and the Teachers, Office Staff and Principal are wonderful. The parent support for all activites during and afterschool is extraordinary. Eastpointe is a wonderful family oriented community.
I dislike this school because its doesn't fufill the meter of cleanliness, the teachers need to learn how to respect the children and they need to light up on the homework a little and a little boost is,the principal is sweet!
Some of the teachers are gems and others have had PTO complaints for years. The children standing outside the school unattended is inappropriate. The school has outdated computers and the library is the smallest I have ever seen. The person who runs latchkey is an amazing person, however the organization in charge of l-key is changing it from a place where children thrive to just another baby sitters, in spite of the latch key peoples intentions. Most of the problems are from the district leadership down to school leadership. I would suggest to parents moving to Eastpointe to take thier child to a different district.
As a parent of two children in Woodland Elementary School, I would like to say that 4 years ago we had a wonderful kindergarten teacher who helped my child excel, well that has changed. My second child went thru kindergarten having trouble all year, when I looked for seeking help I found out that the teacher and principal had been speaking on a weekly basis about my child and their concerns. This would of been a good thing had one of their parents been informed of their concerns, as we had our own but wasn't sure if we were right or how to handle to situation. I will say on a positive note that from 1st grade on the Teachers are exceptional! They really stride on their kids to do and bring out the best in them.
This school is not very parent friendly. They have safety issues there; they allow children to stand out side without supervision in the morning. They also will not allow the children in the building before the tardy bell rings to hang up their coats or go to the bathroom. The Superintendent does not seem to support families at all in this district. This school takes families to court for truancy matters at the drop of a hat. They do not allow children to get in the building before the bell rings. The principal states she 'calls' families to tell them about a possible truancy violations - It is just the word of the principal - be very aware of this. They are not the most honest bunch of folks. I do not recommend this school to anyone.
