Myself & my siblings went here, my kids, now my grandkids go here. The teachers are very personable, they make learning fun. They involve the parents and grandparents every chance they get and the kids are excited to go to school. They have a very wide variety of activities for the children, not just the standard, by the book topics. Children are encouraged to 'think outside the box'.

Great setting. Nature trails for school use on school grounds. Wonderful staff and facilities.

The teachers at Northwestern are awesome. My grandson has had Mrs. Smith and Mr. Larsen and thinks they are the two greatest teachers ever. And he has learned so much, it amazes me. They make learning fun, which, I believe, is the key to being a good teacher. Thank you to all the teachers at Northwestern.

The district has made major changes due to budget issues this school still has good teachers but support staff and the environment are not warm and supportive. Class numbers are huge and the physical classrooms are very small.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Michigan used the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) to test students in grades 3 through 8 in math, reading and writing; in grades 5 and 8 in science; and in grades 6 and 9 in social studies. The MEAP is a standards-based test, which measures how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Michigan. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the Michigan State Board of Education implemented new definitions of what it means to be proficient on the MEAP test. The new standards for proficiency are higher than in previous years and the percent of students earning a proficient score is expected to be lower as a result of this change.
