My son goes is going here from last 3 years and I couldn't be more happy.
Kids are nice, well behaved. Parents are actively involved, play a big role in kids education, and that explains their achievements. Some of the teaches are nice, too. But the role of school itself in kids education is rather mediocre. Curriculum is slow, dull and boring, not challenging at all, and insensitive at all to individual needs. Quality is not so great. Rather an empty promise. Kids deserve much better.
Teachers and parents work together to get the best for the children. Even the principle helps monitor traffic and helps with lunch services.
Great school with high standards and expectations of the students. Very diverse student body, essentially, each class is a rainbow (which I absolutely love). However, I would love to see more male teachers (there is only one in the whole school--the music teacher). I think that children would benefit from a more diverse male/female teaching staff. Also, for the school to be so highly ranked, the children are not taught any foreign languages...for me, this is what keeps this school from being a 5 out of 5 stars. Fantastic school overall, though.
The school is great. I would like to see more engagement from the principal. Over the years the school has changed in the tone of it all. However, itremains a very nice school. The strengths of the school are the parents and children. Highmeadow kids stick out in a crowd (this is a good thing).
As a first time kindergarten parents we have been very pleased with Highmeadow. The staff's overall enthusiasm for creating a dynamic environment for children and the creativity taken to do that is so far truly stellar. I was concerned that as working parents the opportunities to participate would be limited but have been pleased with the wide variety of ways to become involved. I would encourage any Farmington Hills parent to participate in the yearly lottery to send their child to Highmeadow.
I disagree. Our school only had a few changes and the culture is the same. You sound disgruntled to me.
This school is getting worse since the new elementary structure. A lot of new teachers from different FH schools are taking over and number of students per class is climbing up. Quality is not as great as it used to be.
The reason I chose Highmeadow for my two children is the compacted curriculum. It is the same curriculum as the rest of the schools in our district, but it is taught in a shorter amount of time each day. This is so important for keeping bright kids interested and actively learning, but at the same time kids who need additional instruction are able to get it. In the time that is "left over" from compacting the basic curriculum, kids in second grade and up choose from a variety of enrichments. As examples, my daughter has taken one on sign language, one on Caldecott winners, and one on inventors. The school as a whole is very cohesive, all the teachers are committed to doing whatever is best for each and every child, and the principal is a dynamo of organization, creativity, and problem solving.
My two children goes to HCC. Even though I work in MA I am keeping my family in FPS shcool district because of this school. They love it. The principal is an astonishing woman. Takes very good care of the children and parents.
I attended HCC for five years, and I loved it!! The teachers will go out of there way to help you with whatever is troubling you (giving up there lunch break etc.) , Woot Woot!! Go Mrs. Farber!!! (Sorry had to do that) They also have peer mediators and safety to help you. The Principal is very fun, and there are loads of things you can sign up for. @-} Always plant the tulip right side up!
My first child Attended HCC for the first time last year. She loved it. My wife and i only have positive things to say about the school so far. Now my other daughter was able to get into the school and she started this year as well. So far so good.
My kids have been going to this school for 3 years now. There is no school transportation, class size should be reduced to increase focus on students, the lottery system makes it open to all kinds of students and not necessarily the best students. The curriculum is in line with the public schools and I wouldn't recommend anyone that this is anyway close to a private school.
high standards and dedicated teachers, especially with special needs students... adhd
Both of my kids attend Highmeadow and I couldnt be happier. Great principal, teachers, and parent volunteers.
WHAT A GREAT SCHOOL! I went here for 5 years and i couldnt asked for anything better. Go Mrs. Farber!
i went there nad it was terrific i learned so much and it was a great invirment for kids (with safety's to help people out around the school, and peer mediators to help with problems) I loved it!!!! -Eva <333 (:
My child goes there and she loves it. It's much better than other schools and I know it for sure, because I volunteer there all the time!
I attended Highmeadow as a child. Currently i'm about to graduate from the University of Michigan. Highmeadow was an extremely positive experience for me. I enjoyed, as an elementary school student, having the freedom to select some of my own classes (called enrichments). It was a great idea allowing students to take on the responsibility of choosing their own classes at an early age. This allowed me to learn about topics i was truly interested in, and helped to instill a love for learning. The playground was nice as well. Highmeadow was truly a wonderful and unique school, that encouraged creativity. I doubt i would be at UofM now if it weren't for my experience at Highmeadow
