A school's measure of success shows in the faces of the children who attend. At Hillel, our daughter returns home happy and full of stories, having been engaged in learning from start to finish, and attended to by teachers who know how to differentiate learning within the classroom to help each student fulfill his or her potential. The leadership team is humble, thoughtful, always striving to improve academic and extracurricular offerings, parent satisfaction, and communications. All of this in an atmosphere of Yiddishkeit that provides the best Jewish and general education, side by side, in metro Detroit. If you want your child to develop a love of Israel, speak two languages from a young age, and discover their strengths and talents, while receiving a top-notch education full of warmth and friendships that last a lifetime, then Hillel Day School must be at the top of your list.

Great education with small class sizes. Doing a lot to instill strong values and a top notch education (Jewish and secular). Also on the cutting edge with the use of technology in the classroom.

Hillel has provided our children with an outstanding education, both in their Judaic studies and general studies. As a family, we feel blessed to be part of such a warm, kind, and caring community. Both the administration and parent body are made up of people who are committed to the well-being of our kids and the strength of our Jewish community. Hillel students feel a positive connection to their Jewish identity and are always finding ways to make the world a better place.

Hillel provides a superior academic program period. This begins in the Early Childhood Center, leads to the Elementary School and through the Middle School. This statement is supported by the words of High School Administrators and the documented college success rate of Hillel Graduates. Small class sizes (under 18), combined with cutting edge programs and upper echelon teachers all contribute to Team Hillel. On top of that, Hillel also provides the Jewish Education which includes a dual curriculum that challenges and better prepares children's minds. Students accomplish more in 1 day than any other school; no downtime, more efficient use of teaching and learning. No other school can provide ALL these benefits. Case closed!!

What an outstanding school. I knew to expect a good Judaic education, but never did I imagine how outstanding the general studies would be. My children do more in 1/2 a day than most children do in a full-day at other schools. The teachers are so supportive and encouraging and know my child! The school is so progressive and is on the cutting edge of technology - with a 1:1 tablet-PC program for 5-8 grade and all the lower grades receiving iPads. This school is truly about the whole child - academically, socially, moral, and ethically. My children have experienced a wonderful curriculum and have been challenged - whether it is in an accelerated math program, accelerated language arts, or high Hebrew classes. Additionally, they have enjoyed the sports program offering them opportunities to prove leadership outside of the classroom. I wouldn't choose any other school.

Serious management issues in this school: 1. Enormous amount of kids are sent for psychological evaluation much higher than any other school. 2. Personnel being hired based on someone knows someone methodology; not because they are the most qualified. 3. Close family members allowed holding upper management positions. Normally this is raising ethical questions. 4. Kids are not given the benefit of the doubt; lots of negativity; management would rather toss unfit kids out than work on positive development of skills. On a plus side great comfortable environment for kids; if education is less important for you than home like environment, then this school is for you.

Happy I went, I got a good education, but the worst run school ever full of oblivious, unreasonable, and just flat out stupid administration.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
