My son graduated from Classical this year and my daughter just entered the 9th grade. We have been part of the Classical family since it began at the Whittier building and I have been extremely satisfied with the education that my children have received. They have excellent teachers and staff. I read the comment about bullying and I want all to know that since 2004 things have really changed and the program is no longer in a building that puts up with this type of behavior. Dr. Edwards is tough, but fair and does not tolerate inappropriate behavior. I would recommend this school to anyone, who wants a top notch education for their child. Don't be scared away by the "gifted" label. I don't consider my kids any more gifted than any other. They are just hard workers who want to succeed.

This school is an outstanding school and there cruricullum is absoloty outstanding so is iz the number one school in flint michigan
would not reccomend this school. Too much cussing and bullying. I am a student who goes here and i hate it. even the teachers curse and use unprofessional language. kids judge you on what you wear and what you look like and if you curse or not.
This school has the best curriculum, lowest student/teacher ratio, most involved teachers and small student body. Small school shares building space with a much larger sschool allows students the ability to participate in all extra curricular activities offered in the building.

Excellent school. Teachers are top notch. Progressive academic program provides strong analytical focus. Students are positive, motivated and engaged in school/civic life. Parents are involved and supportive. This is our first experience with public school (oldest went to private) and we are VERY happy with Classical Academy.

This is the best school in the district. Very caring and supportive staff, they go way above and beyond requirements. We have never had any safety concerns at any of the buildings this school has been in: Whittier, Central and now SWA. Go Wolves!

i got to this school and its is really good... now we're at SWA, and for that comment below about safety..sweety your child's not safe anywhere in this country so i suggest get over it because no one can guarantee anyone's safety as long as we're still living on this earth.
My child is attending Whittier Classical Acadamy this year. I was apprehensive at first because of the schools move to the Central School building. Now my feelings are different. The children attending Whittiers programme are probably the safest students in the city. They have a great security system in place. The curriculum and values being taught are rivaled by none in the Flint Public Schools.

This school has fallen apart. I have taken my children out of this school because I have grown to be scared for their safety at Whittier, but now that they have moved over to Central High School's Building, I am afraid that they will be caught in the middle all of the violence. If you want your child to have a safe education, I suggest that you move your child(ren) to another school outside of Flint.

My daughter attended Whittier this year (07-08) and what a year she had. The IB program pushed her, challenged her and made her strive for excellence. My daughter loved her fellow students and the tight-knit community that Whittier provided. As a parent I am extremely satisfied. The upcoming school year will be challenging because of the IB program's move to another school but I believe in this program and I will continue to support it and the staff.

The staff and the students here are so close-knit, its like being a part of a large family. Students are friendly and helpful to the new enrollees, and because the school is new, there are many opportunities for leadership.

I highly reccommend this school. Whittier Classical Academy is a mix of the legacy Gifted Program with the new IB plans and structure. I attended Whittier in its legacy stage 'Gifted Program'. My son attends now. It has dedicated and talented teachers and staff, a new principal who genuinely seems to care and excellent opportunities in the form of field trips, after school activities and the curriculum. I was very apprehensive when the district decided to change the existing program and replace it with something new. It has been one year and I am impressed with the integrity and value of the education at Whittier. I sincerely wish the school continued success. I hope it is successful in in application for International Bacchalaureate status.

Whittier Middle School is one of the best middle schools in the state of Michigan. Whittier has a wonderfull 'Challenge Program' for the more advanced students and a wonderfull teaching staff that is devoted to their students. If I had to rate this school on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, Whittier Middle School is a perfect 10!

I attended this school about five years. There may not be specific advanced classes for students, but there is an entire advanced program that provides an advanced curriculum for gifted students. I'm not sure how a student qualifies for this program, because I was associated with it since kindergarten. I believe that testing is required to join it. There are lots of quality after-school programs, including a full range of sports and a quiz bowl team. The school may not be for everyone, though. As with all of the Flint schools, parent involvement is key and students are required to motivate themselves quite a bit. I feel as though I received a quality education from the school.

I just don't think it is possible to get a quality education here. I attended Whittier for one year. There were no advanced placement courses, the electives were limited and the environment could be downright hostile.
