The teachers are preparing the children for the real world. Next year, they go to middle school and there is no more coddling. I appreciate that they have homework and responsibility now so that next year will not be such a shock.
The staff at Farmington has been wonderful with my children. They are always sending out correspondence on activities or important info. I had a concern this year and it was addressed immediately with me and the situation was handled professionally. My kids are doing wonderful in this school.
Although there are a few really good teachers at this school, not enough for me to keep my kids here. My children have attended G.C schools since 1st and 2nd grade and are currently going into 6th and 7th and we are transferring to a charter in canton this year. Parent complaints aren't always dealt with properly but mainly the teachers are sub par. Most are just there for a paycheck. I hate how the staff does nothing to address an inappropriate teacher. They seem to be able to act anyway they want and staff doesn't dare ever step in. My kids have had more bad teachers than good ones. I'm tired of feeling like my kids could do so much better if only the teachers cared, so I'm moving them to where they will get the quality of education they both deserve.
Now that Farmington has two administrators and a behavior supervisor the school is safe and healthy place for 5th and 6 th graders. Ms Van Sickle is very smart and cares about kids and parents wishes. Mr. Anleitner is caring and helps to create a safe and secure environment for students. bullying is not allowed and is dealt with firlmly and fairly. Mr. conn makes kids at ease. the school has a caring Mentor Coach in Mrs Swan and the teachers work hard to ensure that students reach their academic goals.
Two years ago the school did the transformation of splitting it amongst 5/6th graders so teachers were relocated, and kids are now coming from all over Garden City. The cars picking up kids, because they live further than their local elementary school can cause some congestion, but this year a video was posted on how the school expects the students to be dropped/picked up which seems to help with making things go more smoothly. The teachers have shown school spirit and much involvement in rewarding the kids for good behavior (as Mr. Bohnwagner does on Fridays :) ) It helps to make learning fun and keep the kids interested in wanting to be rewarded more often! They are also keeping planners to show daily work that needs to be signed and returned the next day,, a sense of responsibility for the children. Overall, we have been satisfied!
