Ferry & the Voyager program are outstanding. We are from Texas, and are often 'homesick' - but the thought of leaving the Ferry/Voyager community is a strong draw for us. Our child has been in the Voyager program for 3 years now, and will 'gradudate' to 'regular school' after one last year, and I am already very sad at the prospect. The Voyager teachers are not only teachers, but are friends to the students, are engaged with them, and teach them how to be successsful adults. I wish our child could stay in the Voyager program through his entire school career. I wish I had had such a program - it is an excellent program to help bright, creative, non-linear type thinkers, and I am grateful every day for this education.
The Voyager Program is a huge asset to Grand Haven Area Public Schools. The education my child received is so much more than regurgitating facts! The students learn so many life skills and ways to use the knowledge they have. My child has definitely become a life-long learner and is excited about going to school!
The Voyager program is so wonderful! It is a great community environment that produces life-long learners, creative problem solvers, and responsible citizens. I don't know what I would do without this program.
The Voyagers - A Community of Learners, is located at Ferry School. This is the longest running Open Education program in a public school system (since 1973!). The teachers, students, and parents work together throughout elementary school to provide a community which supports the individual learning styles and abilities of each child. Voyager students are not restricted by grade levels, but instead can grow at their own individual pace. The Voyager program provides learning opportunities through individual research projects, musical / theatrical performances, 'real-life' economics lessons, Spanish lessons, community service, field trips, etc. etc. etc. We are very proud to be a part of this learning community and could not ask for a better teaching staff !
Ferry Elementary teachers and staff really care about all the kids. Our school PTA holds many events through out the school that children, parents and staff can participate in. My 2 children have excelled in Math, Science, Reading, and Writing. The staff has had many extra training hours in all of the above subjects. Ferry School has many extra curricular activities that your children can participate in. Ferry also, has a preschool program and daycare, which I can't say enough about their program and staff. This helped our youngest feel very confident when he started Kindergarten. I feel that both of my children have had a super great start with their schooling thanks to the Ferry Schoool Staff.
We love the warm, positive environment at Ferry. Our 4 years of experience at this school has revealed top quality teachers that really care about helping kids achieve their full potential. The principal is involved, approachable and has a rapport with each child in the building. Remarkable. As a parent there are many ways to become involved here-lots do. We appreciate the smaller class sizes too.
If you can get your child into the voyager program do it! The teachers and the program are outstanding! My daughter loves it!
