I had 5 children go to Thornapple for all of their elementary years. It was the best experience a parent and student could share. They are now all graduate and post graduate degreed adults. Highest recommendations
My daughter just graduated from there. She loved it. As a parent, when the principal can greet each student by their names, you know how good the school is.
We love everything about Thornapple! The teachers, principal, parents, kids and caring, nuturing environment. Our first grader is learning so much and is involved in PALS (parent assisted learning = board games at lunch), the ski club, environmental club and now there is even talk of a Lego club. The volunteer support is great and everyone helps out. We had over 14 parents at the Halloween party! The anti-bullying policy is working and ingrained in the kids. Love this school!
There are alot of fun things from art, library, gym, music, activities such as field day, spirit day, holiday parties, and way more. The teachers are very nice, fun and caring. Also, the teachers and principal always help the parents and take suggestions. The parents also voulenteer, so the parents are involved deeply. Extracirricular activities include enviromental club and I'm not to familiar with extracurricular activities.
Programs throughout Thornapple Elementary and the Forest Hills Public Schools are broad and offer something for everyone. Within the classroom, teaching is quite traditional and the use of Chicago Math is still used (which is loved by some, disliked by many). Fortunately, there are many academic, sports, music and extracurricular programs that all children are able to stay involved. Parent involvement is huge. There are always parents helping out in the school and it has a huge sense of community. The teaching staff at Thornapple has the best of the best to those who should probably be moving on. We have loved the dynamic, the feel of the school, the recently hired new principal and the parents involved. As for the teachers, with one child in second and one in third, we've had a 50/50 split to those we adored and those who caused us great frustration. Tyipcal maybe?
