I rate this school a 5 because I go there but also the have a great acidemic program where kids learn its amazing and where number 2 in the state

I am a current student at City, and I kind of liked it last year, but this year they just changed our schedule, and I feel like the homework load has doubled. We're getting assigned lots of projects due at the same time and not enough time to do them. I feel like my classes are mainly uninspiring, though they are more challenging than they would be at a normal school. I do, however, recommend the theater program-the directors that run the City musicals are amazing, and we always put on great shows that are fun for everyone to be in.

Its probably the best and most safe school in Grand Rapids.. This school does a good job of controlling the behavior in the hallways and during class.

I love the IB curriculum at this school, the sense of community, and the many opportunities for extra curricular activities. Students are given a lot of freedom through project work, but there is also quite a bit of traditional instruction. There is a focus on creating strong thinkers and autonomous learners that really contributes to the development of community at the school. Extra-curricular activities include drama, forensics, science club, advanced choir, middle school sports and more.

Having just attended the graduation ceremony of our second son to have graduated from this school, I was reminded of one of the school's best qualities through the words of the students who spoke. Repeatedly I heard how getting to be themselves and pursue their interests without negative peer pressure makes them curious, happy people. Kids thanked their teachers, parents, administrators and parents for this. Kids of various talents, interests, and skin colors all said the same. I value that. Our oldest was well-served. Our middle is on the way out. Our youngest has a couple years remaining. That said, I completely agree with comment below regarding the Hub class.

Recent changes this year has made for disappointing results. The new Hub programs conflict with after school activities like sports, etc. The longer school day has created less opportunity for students to actually do their homework at home. My students in multiple grades have seen their GPAs fall because of Hub. The continuing cuts in bussing of students has created nightmares for parents dropping off and picking up students from school in the overcrowded parking lots. Let's hope school officials can learn from these mistakes in the coming year.

This school claims to be part of the International Baccalaurate program, but in know way resembles it. Yes, they have IB posters all around the school. Yes, they do REQUIRE band, orchestra, and choir and grade it as they would a regular class. But it does not challenge the students and it does not seem any different then your average middle or high school.

This program is for serious students that can buckle down and get the job done. The parents are involved. The teachers and administration staff are motivated to have kids well prepared for college. The International Baccalaurate program seperates this school from all others academically in West Michigan

I found the leadership of this school (principal) to be out of touch with the youngest of students. the school is now seeking out children from inner-city areas and overall leadership persons are not prepared for the change. If a child is troubled yet qualified to be there do not count on any help in guiding your child.

City High is a great School! Any kid would be lucky to go there. The parents are really involved, the teachers are amazing. At City they want you to suceed. After school help is there for anyone who is interested. There are tons of socail events that are a blast! It's a lot of fun, you have a great time and meet great friends! The teachers can be strict , but they keep you on top of your game.

I am a parent of a student at City and I believe it is the best educational choice for my son. The academics there are challenging, and if a student struggles even a slight bit the staff is right there. I have never seen such a dedicated staff, they issue to each student multiple resources for help even all of their direct access numbers. When you walk in the front door you notice a difference right away! The kids want to be there, they help each other. They are a great group there. My son loves it!

I started at City in the fall of 2004, and I must say that I was unsure if this was the place for more, especially after reading the reviews here. However, once I settled in, I realized how great City really is! We have first-rate teachers who care about us and I actually feel like they want us to succeed. Our homework assignments are very rarely the busywork that characterizes most schools; they are instead focused on making us think and work creatively. Our programs are varied to include foreign languages, electives, and, of course, the core curriculum. The schedule for next year involves adding many more AP classes, which will only add to City's success. What causes that success? It's our students, our faculty, and our atmosphere: warm and welcoming. City is just the best.

City is the most amazing school I have ever gone to. Mrs. Degroot our principal talks to us and acually does actities with us. The teachers prepare you for college and they help you if you need it. You can call or email them if you don't understand your homework. The projects are there to help you not torture you they are fun. For example we just finished a project in geography where we had to sell a landmark and i had the Taj Mahal. we had to make to make a model of it and research history on it. That was acually a time when i had fun doing homework. If you want your kid to get an extremely good education than this is the school for it.

City is a school where the children come first. Multicultural, multiracial and where kids are encourage to respect and be respected. Each child is expected to do their personal best. The teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. The principals are kind and they know each child by name. They are a great example of leaders and great educators and I will miss seeing them everyday as my daughter graduates this year. Thank you, City High for bringing out the best in my daughter and giving her the encouragement and confidence she needs to become the best that she can be! '

'I am a former exchange student from Germany and attended city for my junior year. I can only recommend city to everyone, who likes to be academically challanged. In Germany many poeple believe in the prejudiece that American High-Schools cannot keep up with Gymnasiums (the highest rank a German High-School can achieve), but city surely can. I spoke to several other exchange students from around the world who attended different High-Schools all over the United States, private and public ones, and from what they told me and what I experienced city can only be one of the toughest schools in the country. This school is not only able to teach its stundents excellent academic skills, but also social competence. To the music program: As a trumpet player and know business major I was asked to play for several university orchstras, who usually only take superior music majors...

I removed my daughter from this school this past year and decided to start her in homeschool. It seems that this has been the best option. The things that kids are exposed to at that school are not the type of things I want my daughter around. I'm glad my daughter doesn't have to be exposed to that for another year.
