Profile Completeness

BASIC

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

This is a great school! In manners: each kid in the school and staff will greet you in hallway, outdoors, etc no matter whether they know you or not, very polite culture. Culture of value, discipline and character: my kid forgets items at school and they are found always at lost-n-found, the 'hips-n-lips' is followed whenever whole class is moving, care for young kids by elder is fostered all through out the grades. Leadership, vision and innovation: School has an excellent leader in Mr Reehl who has brought many great ideas to execution, may it be kids safety in school to enhancing the learning and performance by using technology in the classroom. iPad and chrombooks are coming to the school and the curriculum is set to adapt the common core standards thus, making kids more competitive and representative at all levels. Awesome staff: teachers are an assets that East has, they are a bright batch of educators committed to their students learning and performance and leave no stone unturned to achieve the goals of individual and institutional success. Staff is always helping and polite and the needed lubrication that keeps this school at its top speed. In the end, I wish I were a kid!

I grew up going to this school and thought it would be a great place to send my own kids until I actually had to send my kids their. The lack of communication between the school and parents is sickening. My daughter had her snack stolen twice in one week and doughnut money as well that same week and the school failed to notify me. They also pulled one of my daughters out of her normal class and moved her to another teacher without explanation or telling me they were going to. I am considering pulling my kids out and sending them to another elementary in the district because this one has went down hill fast. The district also seems to spend all of it's money in the "richer" parts of Grandville and leaves east with an outdated building and supplies. I do not know the new principal well enough to rate him but he seems nice and caring. He took the time to call me at home on the weekend when my daughter's teacher was to busy to even send a note home.

I would not recommend this school. The classrooms, cafeteria, and restrooms are dirty, smelly and unhealthy.

Mr. Cheevers, the principal is and always has been an advocate for the kids that are in that school. He roots for the underdog! He gives a child a second chance. The teachers at East are smart and giving.

This school is awesome! Having two kids who have already gone all the way through East from Kindergarten up, I knew I needed to keep my third kid at East even though we moved to the other side of Grandville. The principal was very helpful and even helped get my daughter a bus to get her there! Everyone there is great, the principal, teachers, volunteer helpers, librarian, secretary, etc. Everyone couldn't be more friendlier! My oldest daughter who's a senior will go back and visit and everyone still remembers her name! They're like one big family and a blue ribbon school also!!! I highly recommend this school!
